"'Ha ha' and 'he he' signify laughter in Latin and in English, because they are cried out when laughing."
Wonderful evidence here in Ælfric's Grammar that 'ha ha' has been the sound and spelling of laughter in English since at least the 11th century and the Old English period.

really admiring the guts it takes to pick a reign name with a 50% incidence rate of abolishing the monarchy
if I keep giving my twitter handle out after conference papers I should perhaps look halfway alive on here … it’s summer research season! thanks to the Fat Bodies in Early Modern Drama folks and @britgrad (+for the swag) for rounding out a ✨productive✨ June in the UK – at Edinburgh, Scotland
this CFP got me so excited when it came out 🤩 (can we start saying CFPs “drop,” like albums?) & it was so much fun to present this morning—even though I was as “fat and out of breath” as a fencing Hamlet after leaving laptop in hotel room
