If people want to know the ridiculousness of the situation at Cornell right now… I’ve just been told that my request to be allowed to pray on Campus has been denied and that they will only permit me the Friday prayer and within a limited timeline. I’m still considered a safety concern apparently. Cornell is making it known that if you take a stance against genocide you will be subject to the most extreme measures. This level of repression should be concerning to everyone.

This is incredibly accurate and everyone in Life Sciences needs to read it. The ableism is structural!

It's tough to want to be in academia to try to make a change and support the next student but also I want to get our of here as soon as possible

“We need a standardized policy for disability inclusion at universities. That's something I'm actively working on right now as part of Empower Ability Consulting, trying to get broader guidelines and policies in place that are more inclusive in STEM in general.” @sampson_dog

If you had to pick just one thing you want your friends and family to know about being chronically ill/disabled, what would it be?

I asked disability services for a trash pickup accommodation because it's physically impossible for me to carry my trash to the dumpster and lift the dumpster lid. "The university doesn't provide this service, so ask your friends." I file a grievance.

Your reminder that the accommodations process can be harmful to ANYONE! Ive been navigating accommodations in higher ed for years and I have never gotten what I need or heard of someone getting everything they need. 1/10

New comment in @NatureClimate. "This is not a call for inaction. We must act - with haste. But popular urgency should not prioritize technological and scientific feasibility over climate action and evidence-driven care for social-ecological systems." doi.org/10.1038/s41558-024-0…

An element of academia which continues to floor me is that three people in a department can teach the same amount of classes, but one person makes 100k+, another makes 45k, and another makes 18k...and students have zero awareness of this difference.
