Oh, is it?
Interesting that al four countries have stood up against the US.
France - Opposed Iran and trade war.
Spain - Won't aid US in Iran War.
Chile - Opposed coup of VZ.
India - Won't easily sign a trade deal, won't stop Russian oil, Won't give easy entry for US companies.

This is an excellent piece by Anuj Ji & Piyush Ji. Leave everything whatever you are doing and give it a read.
I will add a little further to this...
Licence Raj trained an entire generation of Indian promoters to see the state as patron, not referee. We did not build a global brand under that system; we built relationships in Delhi. We did not out-innovate a competitor; we got them denied a licence.
35 years of liberalisation opened the market, but nobody ever forced Indian industry to unlearn the reflex. So when the doors opened, the smartest move for a promoter raised on that system was not "go build the next Samsung", it was "sign a JV with the actual Samsung, take the margin, keep the family holding intact, let Seoul do the risk."
That is a rational response to 70 years of being taught the state, not the global market, is the thing we have to win over.
This hangover survived 1991 because the people running economic policy after liberalisation were often the same intellectual class that designed the licence system in the first place, just administering a slightly more open version of it.
Nobody with real skin in nation-building asked Indian promoters the one question the chaebols were asked: what have you built that the world actually needs? We opened the market to foreign capital and called it reform. We never demanded reciprocity, because demanding anything of capital still smelled, to that class, faintly of the socialism they had just supposedly abandoned.
What has changed only in the last decade is the beginning of an actual answer:
- PLI schemes with output tied to targets
- Atmanirbhar Bharat as a stated doctrine rather than an embarrassed afterthought
- a govt finally willing to say India's market access is worth something and should be priced accordingly
- semiconductor missions, defence indigenisation, a state that negotiates from strength instead of gratitude.
Anuj Ji & Piyush Ji's sunset-clause proposal is exactly the next honest step: stop being polite about protection, make it transactional, make firms earn it by winning abroad.
I and Piyush Doshi highlight in today's Economic Times how of every ₹100 of profit generated by an MNC in India, only about ₹56 stays here. No other large emerging economy performs this poorly. China keeps 91%, Indonesia 96%, and Brazil 88%. The plain truth is, in the global economy, India works for wages, while others earn royalties. Indian labour, factories and consumers generate enormous value. But assets that command a premium - brands, patents, platforms, proprietary technology - are owned elsewhere. It is time to change that through focused reforms and R&D spend by the private sector. Indian Maharaj must command royalties not just wages.

In high-pressure environments, it’s not just about what you can see it’s about what you might miss.
Humans get tired, attention slips, and that’s where mistakes happen.
With AI-powered imaging, the system continuously scans, detects, and alerts you only when it matters so you can focus on making the right decisions at the right time.

Today, India takes a defining step in its civil nuclear journey, advancing the second stage of its nuclear programme.
The indigenously designed and built Prototype Fast Breeder Reactor at Kalpakkam has attained criticality.
This advanced reactor, capable of producing more fuel than it consumes, reflects the depth of our scientific capability and the strength of our engineering enterprise. It is a decisive step towards harnessing our vast thorium reserves in the third stage of the programme.
A proud moment for India. Congratulations to our scientists and engineers.

A few days ago, I conducted a 100-piece British orchestra, The Royal Philharmonic Orchestra to perform India’s National Anthem at the legendary Abbey Road Studios, London. This is the largest orchestra ever to record India's National Anthem and it is spectacular! The "Jaya He" at the end gave me goosebumps. Felt great as an Indian composer :-)
I am sharing this historic recording with every one of you this Independence Day - use it, share it, watch it, but with respect :-) It is yours now. Jai Hind.
