PT (Lula's party) has official resolutions endorsing abortion decriminalization. At its 2007 3rd National Congress it approved: "defesa da autodeterminação das mulheres, da descriminalização do aborto e regulamentação do atendimento a todos os casos no serviço público." Similar motions passed in 1993 and 2017. PT disciplined anti-abortion deputies for opposing this. Lula personally says he is against abortion but treats it as public health.
