this quote from Carl Jung hits so hard. “The world is full of people suffering from the effects of their own unlived life. They become bitter, critical, or rigid, not because the world is cruel to them, but because they have betrayed their own inner possibilities. The artist who never makes art becomes cynical about those who do. The lover who never risks loving mocks romance. The thinker who never commits to a philosophy sneers at belief itself. And yet, all of them suffer, because deep down they know: the life they mock is the life they were meant to live.”

Intelligence is very attractive. A person who talks to you about different topics, writes correctly, can explain things you don't understand, knows different languages, can express themselves profoundly, and is capable of debating various topics is exciting. Open-minded people, those with a continuous desire to learn, are definitely amazing. And as they say, mental attraction is much stronger than physical; you cannot escape a mind even by closing your eyes.

This is comedy gold. Best Advent Calendar this year. (Even though is does not have chocolate).
It's that time of year again! Literary Advent Calendar, Day 1: Poet Laureate, Simon Armitage, exquisitely describes the potential humiliations of reading poetry in public:

Were you the victim of a smear campaign? 👉A smear campaign is a narcissist telling lies about you 👉The victim sharing what actually happened is not a smear campaign

Pay attention to the people who “can’t” with you but “can” with everyone else. You have to let go of the people that can't see your worth. You should be appreciated, respected and never took for granted. Believe you can find better. Go where you are celebrated, not tolerated.

In a world of performative cruelty and outrage, it takes tremendous courage to be gentle, to love well, to read widely, to embrace curiosity instead of bigotry, to pursue kindness instead of hate.

This is a brilliant idea.
I feel like there's a market for a trans-Atlantic ferry that is not a cruise ship. No frills: restaurant, bar, gym, cinema, library. There must be plenty of other people like me who would not mind spending 5-7 days working remotely or recharging while they travel.

Ingeborg! ❤️
The story of Ingeborg Rapoport, who, in 2015, 74 years after being denied her Ph.D by the Nazis for being Jewish, she successfully defended her dissertation and received her doctorate at the age of 102, making her the oldest person ever to receive one ow.ly/mYf330oqjSB

In our research we found that women were told they were too young to lead, too old to lead...and middle age wasn't quite right either. As it turns out no age is the right age to be a woman leader. See my latest @HarvardBiz article for solutions. hbr.org/2023/06/women-in-lea…

Read this list. It it truly fabulous. Thank you so much for writing it, and happy birthday, @editingemily !
It’s my birthday. I’m 37 and I have some things I’d like to share, in no particular order. 1. No one thinks about you more than you do. That thing from two years ago that keeps you up at night? No one else remembers. Honor the memory and let it go.
