Check out @ecalvo68’s excellent review of @lschiume’s book, Incumbency Bias, in RLOP! revistas.usal.es/cuatro/inde…
Could not be more grateful to @ecalvo68 for this review of Incumbency Bias in RLOP. Love how he puts it: bias, positive or negative, is not a pathology but what accountability produces when expectations outrun capacity. Review: revistas.usal.es/cuatro/inde… Book: cambridge.org/core/books/inc…

Everyone interested in Latin American politics, political economy and the politics of development should read this path-breaking volume. It is the kind of agenda-setting book that identifies the key questions for decades to come. Each chapter is a gem. Congrats @VickyMurilloNYC !

Really important contribution explaining something counterintuitive yet crucial: why do labor reforms do not map cleanly onto government ideology?
The right and center-right keep winning elections in Latin America, and labor reform is central to their agenda. Why do these reforms vary so much across governments? In a new @LAPSjournal paper with @oliviaberisso23 and @tomas_divizia, we address this puzzle 🧵 1/3

Globalized State-led Development is out @CUP_PoliSci @RBlaifeder! I revisit the developmental state for an era of global capital and democracy, asking why governments support the global investments of national firms. Brazil is at the center, comparative engagement with China.

Globalization did not end state-led development – it changed how governments pursue it. In her new book, Globalized State-led Development, Kellogg Faculty Fellow Jazmín Sierra examines how countries such as Brazil and China have adapted industrial policy by supporting national firms’ expansion abroad to gain access to markets, knowledge, and technology. At a recent Kellogg book launch, Sierra discussed the book with Ben Ross Schneider of MIT and Dan Slater of the University of Michigan, who highlighted its contributions to debates about industrial policy, development, and democracy. Bookmarking this seminal contribution to understand the politically crucial yet severely understudied 21st century politicization of rural interests in Latin America. A must read for scholars of political economy in Latin America and beyond.

Felicitaciones @jazsierra!
