JUST IN: Zodl's (@zodl_app) new sync engine, Slipstream, is live for all users.
In controlled benchmarks, a wallet restore on iPhone 16 Pro went from 16m 55s to 43 seconds. A 2018 iPad went from over an hour to under five minutes.

The Zcash devs have been grinding for years, some over a decade.
They had options. Higher comp, sexier chains, better funded projects, less personal risk. Often underappreciated, underestimated, attacked, and ignored.
But they didn't leave. Instead, they built, with an uncompromising belief that this project will change the world. Not a job. A mission.
It's special. Unstoppable. Can't be replicated. And it will change the world.

Zcash Open Development Lab (ZODL) has secured over $25 million in funding from a16z, Paradigm, Winklevoss Capital, Coinbase Ventures, Cypherpunk Technologies, Maelstrom (family office of Arthur Hayes), Chapter One, David Friedberg, Haseeb Qureshi, Mert, Balaji and others.
If you aren’t familiar, Zcash Open Development Lab (ZODL) is the team formerly known as Electric Coin Company (ECC), the group that launched Zcash, and the creator of @zodl_app. The name is new, but our team has been building Zcash for a decade.
A couple of years ago, my team and I set out to change the trajectory of Zcash with an uncompromising focus on the user experience for shielded ZEC. We released Zodl (then called Zashi) and have never looked back.
The release of the normie-friendly wallet was the first step. Then came integrations with partners like Flexa for retail spending and Keystone for cold storage. Most recently, we worked with the NEAR team to unlock ZEC swaps through NEAR intents.
It worked. The proof is in the numbers. The wallet has driven adoption of the Zcash shielded pool by over 400%, and facilitated more than $600M in ZEC swaps since October.
Now is the time to build on that momentum and accelerate. In addition to Zodl, we are building Zallet, a full node wallet that will also underpin new desktop software. Ultimately, we intend to deliver a private, decentralized financial system as an alternative to legacy institutions.
This funding allows us to bring these ambitions to life, without relying on Zcash dev fund grants to get there.
I’m grateful for these investors who are partnering with us. These are exciting days for the ZODL team and Zcash more broadly.
We’re in the dawn of a new era.
We will get ZEC in the hands of billions.

Who thought it was a good idea? The four Bootstrap board members our team walked out on: Zaki Manian, Christina Garman, Alan Fairless, and Michelle Lai (“ZCAM”).
The former ECC team is intact and continues to support Zcash and Zashi under a new banner, this time without a harmful committee of inconsequential characters.
Our CEO is still @jswihart. Critical development didn't stop. 2026 will be our biggest year yet.

Over the past few weeks, it's become clear that the majority of Bootstrap board members (a 501(c)(3) nonprofit created to support Zcash by governing the Electric Coin Company), specifically Zaki Manian, Christina Garman, Alan Fairless, and Michelle Lai (ZCAM), have moved into clear misalignment with the mission of Zcash.
Yesterday, the entire ECC team left after being constructively discharged* by ZCAM. In short, the terms of our employment were changed in ways that made it impossible for us to perform our duties effectively and with integrity.
We're founding a new company, but we're still the same team with the same mission: building unstoppable private money.
Importantly, the Zcash protocol is unaffected. This decision is simply about protecting our team’s work from malicious governance actions that have made it impossible to honor ECC's original mission.
We'll have more soon. Hang tight.
Onward.
