I need to make a thread revisiting Abel & Lute's interactions, including how they're portrayed in the merch, because I'm noticing a pattern. Viv likes PLENTY of shippy fanart, from popular pairings to the most obscure rarepairs, yet I've never seen her like anything romantic +

where Abel straight-up calls her β€œMom.” Meanwhile, Viv has liked artwork of even more obscure ships, including Sera/Lute, Vox/Lute & Roo/Lute. How is she liking those but apparently overlooking Abel/Lute, which is a more popular rarepair? +

Someone more familiar with Viv's writing tendencies can correct me, but I do think there's a recurring β€œboys will be boys” mentality in how she portrays certain male characters. Moxxie is needy & Millie enjoys taking care of him, Lucifer makes mistakes but ultimately means +

well & is trying his best, & Adam is repeatedly characterized as ignorant + apparently does not know he's being sexist, meaning he most likely never ate the fruit. There's an almost infantilizing quality to it. I'm not saying it's malicious or that she's suggesting *all* men +

are this way, but I do see a pattern, & I can imagine parts of the fandom taking issue with it if that's where she's going with Adam/Eve,

I'd actually argue that they're kind of backed into a corner here, because practically everything we've been told about Lilith thus far paints her in a rather unflattering light. She's apparently cold, distant, emotionally withdrawn, & prone to pushing people away. +

That's assuming she never ate the fruit in the first place. But given the imagery of Lilith holding it in Helluva Boss, I'm inclined to believe she did. & consuming the Fruit of Knowledge doesn't automatically mean someone becomes morally good. +

I'd argue that Lilith DID eat it, which could explain why she hesitated to step forward. She understood exactly what they were about to do to Eve, understood the moral implications of it, & chose to go through with it anyway.

(1) we can apply that EXACT same logic to Lucifer & Sera, who were literally in the same scene together without either acknowledging the other. Does that mean they don't recognize each other? Of course not. The narrative simply doesn't need to explore their history or +

suggesting that after everything Lucifer went through with him, it would be entirely in character for Lucifer not even remember his name. So even if Lucifer DID recognize Eve, there's already a characterization-based explanation for why he might choose not to acknowledge her. +

Between the narrative simply withholding that interaction for a later reveal & Lucifer's established tendency to bury uncomfortable experiences, I don't think this is particularly difficult to argue against.
