All Codex Pro 200 users be certain to burn as much usage including all banked resets between now and October 29th (one week from today). The reset's value will be cut in half after that, and it makes zero sense to keep it around. Burn all weekend.
The corporate response to this will be rapidly spinning up an Apple rent-seeking model for everything: here you can have a halfassed api that does 20% of what you want & we charge you a subscription, or we sue you and encrypt the crap out of everything to make it miserable.
War.
All around me non-techies are doing techie things with AI. I see people saying it's not happening but it's happening all around me.
The guy who manages my vacation home is not a programmer, never has been. Dude in his 50s and he's managed to build with Codex a whole dashboard to manage all of his properties.
Every house has smart devices (cameras, locks, AV, blinds etc.) and he used to have to bounce between a dozen apps on his phone to control each house, now he can just do it easily from this dashboard he build for himself and the AI has connected to all the devices.

Linux on the M6 Mac Mini, Day 6 - GPU is up!
Many of you noticed in yesterday's screenshot it used software rendering. I'm excited to share Omarchy on the M6 now utilizes the GPU.
Almost all the drivers are done, and I'll be starting on the Apple Neural Engine bring-up soon.

Yep, Anthropic contributed zero, literally zero value.
All it did was to announce Mythos, said Mythos is going to hack everything, got 50 or so companies to pay millions for access. They helped zero security researchers. Their safety classifier trips when even reading a vulnerability report.
OpenAI on the other hand, rolled out sensible KYC, gave access to Daybreak Blue, and see what the community has done with GPT-5.6-Sol (daybreak version).
One creates all the fear-mongering and delivers zero value, and the other quietly just carries everyone forward.
gotta give it to openai and their sane daybreak program

all largely thanks to openai daybreak giving researchers access to gpt 5.6 sol. anthropic took the opposite approach, gatekeeping access, there is a lesson to be learned here
rooted my Aqara M3 home hub (which is of course on an IoT VLAN)
they spend a lot of effort encrypting what they're exfiltrating to AWS even in memory. this report might get spicy by the time I'm through.
requires proximity, but considering Matter is the backdoor I used to gain total control over my Aqara hub, the fact that any Chinese drone near my house would have full access to my (VLAN) network is pretty much intolerable even as theoretical.
it would be entirely possible for anyone with a Chinese phone that was programmed to watch for my BSSID who happened to walk by to unknowingly connect to and control my network in a matter of seconds, without ever knowing.
Nobody wants to hear this, but we should be forcibly untrusting all root certs from any country that is not above reproach both ethically and technically. I lived this way for years on my daily Mac. It was painful, but it protected against entire classes of certain attacks.
tweaked the strata header to show current status for my gitea review queue. starting to wish I'd snagged a $3500 spark. this is handy.

LINUX. ON. THE. IPAD. 🐧🔥
After evenings of DFU retries, my iPad mini 4 is running native ARM64 Linux. Both A8 cores online. Live root shell.
Huge thanks to @henrikklee for sharing guidance from his iPad 6 work.
Next stop: Omarchy.
>Google DeepMind researchers are under in perpetuity non-disparagement clauses forbidding them from ever speaking critically of the company.
we watch men sell their souls every single day, and we pretend it is totally unremarkable.
Important, and I'm glad this is finally public. Google DeepMind researchers are under in perpetuity non-disparagement clauses forbidding them from ever speaking critically of the company. I'd already confirmed this with multiple people.
Yes, some ex-employees have spoken out nonetheless. But it has also discouraged others from doing so. And yes, it most certainly has a chilling effect with regards to discussions on safety and risk.
Others have written compellingly about how important the ability to speak freely and critically is, especially on topics like safety and risk. And what a testament to the research employee community's coordination and hard-won bargaining power it has been to get there at other companies.
GDM burn that commons by having this. And everyone who signs burns that commons too. Let's get it changed.
everyone should have at minimum the free sfw running on every system, from now on

My 3080/12/64 gaming PC has been churning out often-useful bugs all day as part of an asynch review loop for all my paid model gitea activity. This might actually be worth the electricity today, and certainly will be in the near future.
Strata 0.2.0 is now live in beta! It includes its own in-app harness and terminal-serving interface.

On the first floor of DeAnza 3 on Apple's old campus, the conference room theme was oxymorons, so we had Postal Service, Military Intelligence, etc.
One of them was called Apple Forecasting, in tribute to how famously bad 90s Apple was at predicting demand up or down. Now this.
The eMudhra moment will go down in history as the move 37 of cryptography. Four turned out to be a number so random that only one in ten thousand cryptographers would have chosen it. The response proves this.
