What a refreshing read on Indian Independence day, from Arjun Erigasi's opinion on chess that matters most. We don't have repurposing Rating to unify to 1 number. Preserving contexts of Elo and it's sensemaking is one thing but its basis is everything.

I am very sad to learn the First ever Crash for Boeing 787 Dreamliner taking down, Aviation industry transforming Engineering Marvel - I worked on its Brain and Nervous system "SCOE and RDC" and Safety of flight testing 15 years back before 1st Flight. Still hard to digest this.
I have a long Admiration for Youth Olympic movement and heritage dialogue. What a game changer with African Leadership from Zimbabwe, IOC Presidency, a case for Women in leadership from the largest conferederation. Looking towards an eventful 2026 WOG Milan and YOG Senegal.
Sorry N Srinath, it's a poor understanding of power equations or FIDE. No tom-dick-harry can blackmail FIDE. It is an unconscious intuition, it is the best leverage for Magnus, Ian and FIDE. When Olympiad Gold was shared, what was your felling as a Indian Captain. What was power?
Well! Leaders make leaders (not followers...). I deeply respect what @MagnusCarlsen has done in transitioning his legacy and acknowledging Ian's great comeback since Dubai. Today, World Championship is conquered by 18-year-olds, which is thought leadership, talent, and training.
What a wishful day, it has been. Another 18 year old Clinch the World Rapid, with an unusual undefeated 13 round Marathon. Koneru Humpy second World Women Championship title. 2024 is all about dogged the tie-breakers.
That is a real shame! Moral, ethics and law? which one did @Magnuscarlsen breach? Slapping with a fine is reasonable. If a player leaves the Chess tournament in any form of shame. Chief Arbiter should be responsible. This puts the organisers down so much, chess fans miserable.
I cannot imagine any sport where a player is told to conform to the rules and says he will not and can continue.
Having said that, this is bad for chess. And it is silly. Magnus did not look worse than many other participants. He did not mean to course offence and was from what he said, not impolite to the officials.
On the other hand, it was perfectly possible for him to change in the time given. If he had been in first place, it is a safe bet that he would have.
Thoughts?

Social care, like mentorship & shared activities, not only builds confidence but offers parents much-needed respite.
This New Year, join us in creating a future where every child explores & grows.🌍 #ThisIsSocialCare

ALT DCP #ThisIsSocialCare campaign graphic. Blue and pink background. White text reads "My child's been waiting for some months now for a mentor to be allocated to him. This is something that I believe he'll benefit from in terms of confidence building, travel, training, shared activities and just someone from outside the family to chat to. It will also give me as a parent some respite and the chance to be able to relax safely in the knowledge that my child is with someone who can be trusted and is enjoying himself and gaining important social skills."

I had seen many chess dreams. I came up with opening novelties and found solutions to positions I couldn't in daytime.
But I had never created a puzzle in my dream :)
When I woke up and checked with the engine, everything was correct!
A beautiful mate in 2 :) Can you solve it?

Happy Thanksgiving to all those in the States who celebrate. May your day be full of gratitude and appreciation for those in your life… and of staying present by not checking Twitter or playing on @chesscom too much 😉
Actually great man, with humble gestures. He sent me his 4th edition on How to reassess chessboard in a priority mail, saying I should have a copy. I have used his ideas in studying blind & sighted children playing chess. Joyful correspondence. He will be missed. RIP! silman
I grew up hanging with Jeremy Silman at Southern Cali chess tournaments and then had the pleasure to work with him for many of the early years at Chess.com. He was a brilliant writer and person, and quite frankly, one of the most hilarious people I ever met.
RIP, Jeremy 🙏❤️

Beginning of new intense week; as an advocate for the DeepSea friends this week,
let me see some progress on the projects that I had parked aside for a week long to support a powerful conversation on social actions for the most marginalised communities!

Ding Liren: "I started learning to play chess at four years old and spent 26 years playing and analysing. I've tried to improve my chess ability in many different ways and using different methods. I think I did nearly everything. Sometimes there are tournaments when you are not so happy. Sometimes I struggle to find other hobbies to make me happy. But I was trying to learn from the best. The match reflects the deepest of my soul." #NepoDing
