Our paper "Beyond Costs: The Dominant Role of Strategic Complementarities in Pricing" is finally out at the JME!
sciencedirect.com/science/ar….
How important are strategic complementarities (SC) in pricing? Firms respond more to their own costs or to their competitors' prices? (1/6)
3) They are state-dependent: stronger when inflation is high.
4) They are asymmetric: firms react faster to competitor price than decreases.
5) They scale with market structure: larger firms with fewer competitors and broader customer bases respond more strongly. (5/6)

🚨 Forthcoming in Econometrica!
How does trade liberalization affect developing countries with large informal sectors?
Informality fundamentally changes how we think about the gains from trade. (1/5)
In settings with high informality, the gains from trade are significantly amplified by reductions in misallocation. During economic downturns, the informal sector acts as a buffer against unemployment but leads to larger aggregate real-income losses. econometricsociety.org/publi…

RIP dear John Leahy. An extremely insightful and fun economist.
I took this photo of him in Rome. He stood up there, his usual extroverted self and declared to all that he was an archangel on a mission.
