European exploration began long before Columbus.
This incredible animated map shows how Europeans explored and mapped the world over 1,200 years, from Viking voyages to the first photographs of Earth from space.

Who could have seen this coming? If only there were some sort of social science dedicated to studying markets that could have warned us in advance.

Excerpts and lessons,
"Insight One: Great powers should never be led by the policy of minor states, even if “public opinion” as shaped by the press encourages it...
"Insight Two: Wars should be fought, and peace concluded based on political considerations and with a view toward the future, even if that causes ill-will with the military establishment...
"Insight Three: Martial spirit within the armed forces should be encouraged, but 'the task of keeping its results within such limits as the nation’s need of peace can justly claim is the duty of the political, not the military, heads of state...'
"Insight Four: In victory, magnanimity."

Colleges and universities should immediately drop the now dumbed down SAT and replace it with the Classic Learning Test (CLT). At a minimum the CLT should be accepted as an alternative to the SAT and ACT.

Tyler Cowen:
'I am not even sure what to say at this point. We need a radical revaluation of this work, and of the associated policy arguments. More generally, this is only a single step in the story of how AI is going to revise economic science, and indeed past research more generally. As I stress in many of my recent talks, there will be significant gains and losses in status, with the losses often outweighing the gains. I see this as one of those cases.'

The Real AI Bottleneck
Humans can read about 238 words per minute. Meanwhile, AI can generate ~4500 words per minute. This is a 19X difference.
The huge disparity between how fast AI can generate content compared to how fast we can consume it means that more information doesn’t equate to more knowledge, better decisions, or increased productivity. Unless we ensure AI helps us determine what merits our attention and shortens our information-decision-action cycle, this abundance will overwhelm us.

🎓 The best scholars aren't surrounding themselves with affirmation.
They're actively courting disagreement. And that requires viewpoint diversity.

Marketing in the Age of AI
I foresee ten trends that will shape how marketing will be done going forward. They can be thought of in three groupings:
--Intelligence: How firms understand customers. Firms move from periodically researching customer segments to continuously understanding individuals.
--Interaction: How firms reach customers. Companies move from marketing to human buyers alone to interacting with both humans and their AI agents.
--Organization: How marketing itself operates. Firms move from human-executed marketing tactics to human-directed processes executed by AI.
