Here is our preprint on estimating realized genetic gain (RGG) for plant breeding programs. Key points:
1. A novel definition of RGG was proposed.
2. Estimation models were biased, thus
3. Multiple models with directional bias should be considered.

Corn yield gains in the U.S. are no longer tied to higher plant densities. 🌽
Recent genetic progress is driven by increased yield per plant—not improved crowding tolerance—highlighting a clear decoupling between yield and plant density.

Vg from genomic models on SNP marker genotypes is variance between SNP marker allele substitution effects multiplied by some constant. That’s not really genetic variance for a trait and hence “SNP heritability” is not really heritability. @epigenci 1/2
Replying to @AlexTISYoung
It doesn't help that h^2_g was not actually defined in Yang et al. 2010 . But this goes both ways, a lot of people think SNP heritability is biased down even though it estimates a very specific (and IMO useful) population parameter.
