Given that public finance economists across the political spectrum agree that the AI results are slop, perhaps @MargRev should retract what is now being used as ideological misinformation?
Mateo Hoyos retweeted
As far as I see, *none* of the public finance economists on this side (no matter where they lean politically) find the criticism on the Saez/Zucman "evaluation" page valid. Every positive tweet comes from someone from outside the field who likely doesn't know the papers. 1/2

This is not how we should proceed. I hope the authors and MR retract this based on a wide range of folks making a good case against this type of review / assessment.

How bad is administrative bloat in higher ed?
At MIT, the “student body has grown by 8% and its faculty by 9% since the mid-1980s. By comparison, the tally of administrators jumped by 189%.”

@florianederer asks a fair question, but the counterfactual is unobservable, b/c nobody publishes rejection letters (unless Florian is asking authors to share those).
What we can observe is impact. So here’s a different test. 🧵 1/
Heterodox economists claim that they're systematically shut out of top econ journals.
So I have a genuine question:
What are the best recent heterodox papers that deserved publication in a top journal but were rejected?

Micro has widened its circle to incorporate game theory, evolutionary dynamics, etc. over the last few decades. The increasing openness to ideas coming from areas outside of neoclassical economics has been especially characteristic of applied micro. Macro theory, which used to be perceived as the more accommodating half of economics, by contrast, has become increasingly closed off to anything outside of fully optimized rational agent models (in single and heterogeneous agent varieties).
In my own area of international economics, using the models incorporated in the Asbjorn Rodseth’s 2000 textbook would render a paper unfit for publication today. It would be hard for someone like Lance Taylor to publish a paper in the JIE or JDE (let alone to serve as an editor of the latter, as he did back then).

Could not agree more … there’s a sort of empty moralism/self-righteousness in the attitude against AI written docs.
