This as a great mentoring programme: 5 β. I participated as mentee and received important guidance to navigate the tricky early career stage. This is especially important in a relatively new profession like #RSEng where career paths are not yet firmly defined. DM any questions.
Mentoring Scheme 2022-2023 is open forms.gle/V5ekL3m13theLjAK9
SocRSE are looking for 30 mentor-mentee pairs. Our pilot last year was really successful. Sign up on the quick no-commitment Expression of Interest form and we'll email round full application forms in a few weeks.
Please come be one of my colleagues!

This stone tablet from 1800-1600 BC shows that ancient Babylonians were able to approximate the square root of two with 99.9999% accuracy.

Over 1 million people have joined Mastodon since October 27. Between that and those who returned to their old accounts, the number of active users has risen to over 1.6 million today, which, for context, is over 3 times what it was just about two weeks ago!
Curious to get some #RSEng opinions on #TwitterMigration and move to @joinmastodon as natural alternative. It would be a shame to lose the follow and following list I have put a lot of time into on Twitter. A sacrifice worth making for principles?
At last, I finished this review of a very interesting minisymposium at #PASC22 @PASC_Conference. The session approached Software Sustainability in CSE from many different levels, and I hope I captured that. Thoughts welcome! #RSEng #SoftwareEngineering #SoftwareSustainability

Research software plays a crucial part in academic research, but its visibility & reuse are still limited.
That's why we are proud to announce the launch of the Research Software Directory (RSD), an online platform to promote the visibility, reuse & impact of research software!

RSEs get up to a lot of fantastic work, but youβd expect us to say that! Why not read some posts from RSEs themselves (and add any we've missed!)π
Achieved even more than the 10,000x speed up of some Python + numpy code promised in @EPCCed @ARCHER2_HPC workshop this morning at #RSECon22! Great interactive workshop on a conceptually simple problem where you can still see the benefits. Materials here github.com/EPCCed/PythonHPC
