Very moved by @JordiGraupera on Michael Walzer. This does something that could be called "thinking together": a writer thinking along with, and about, a thoughtful subject so the reader can think in new ways. (The opposite of a thin, preachy "think piece") newyorker.com/culture/person…

Jaylen Brown says he bought a gold harp, and now has someone come over twice a week to play it as the sun goes down while his chef cooks dinner “My favorite purchase, I think my best, my most favorite purchase was, I bought a harp. “Allegedly assaulted”
The Prime Minister’s Office: The facts surrounding the confrontation near Abu Falah, during which Washington Post photojournalist Heidi Levine was allegedly assaulted, remain unclear and are under investigation. Israel unequivocally condemns violence against anyone—Jews, Arabs, Christians or journalists. Those responsible will be held accountable. But serious questions remain. Reports indicate some 200 Arabs and far-left activists confronted approximately 40 Israeli youths. Footage shows masked individuals on both sides hurling objects, amid reports of fireworks fired at Jewish youths. Other footage appears to show Levine knocked down and immediately helped to her feet by the same unidentified individual. The investigation must establish the facts, including who initiated the violence. We will not allow disputed incidents to be exploited to demonize the hundreds of thousands of law-abiding Jewish residents of Judea and Samaria. The facts must determine the conclusions. Not the headlines.

The siege of Taiz, in Yemen, is the longest siege in modern warfare. Now, the Houthis have surrounded the city. My latest piece, for @nybooks, is a review of @AlexMStark's excellent book and has reporting from Taiz and elsewhere in Yemen: nybooks.com/articles/2026/11… #Yemen #Socotra

Merrill College students know their rights as journalists. "Cat Murphy is a master's student at the University of Maryland, credentialed as a reporter for our Capital News Service and doing the job we teach our students to do. Cat recorded openly in a public space alongside other news outlets, and that is her legal right," Dean Rafael Lorente (@DeanLorente) said. "I'm proud of how she handled herself in a difficult situation."
Republican Rep. Andy Harris incorrectly told a reporter they were breaking the law as the reporter and others recorded an exchange with him last night. Harris had just wrapped up a debate with Democratic challenger Dan Schwartz.

After a decorated 24-year run at ESPN, Nicole Noren resigned in protest. She couldn’t go along with the network’s all-out embrace of gambling. For the first time publicly, in @CJR, Noren shares the deeply personal reasons behind her decision. cjr.org/the-interview/nicole…

I'm not smart enough to understand why scandals do or don't win the public's attention, but I was blown away by this reporting from @CGorrivan, @ElleBeyoud and @nicola_m_white. If you're interested in markets, it's worth your time. Here's a gift link bloomberg.com/news/features/…

Took me a long time to figure out my nine favorites, be honest with myself, settle on some really sincere choices, and get them into the little grid. Tried three times to export it and this is what keeps coming out. All in all probably better than my picks, oh well

Naza is a stunning film. I really mean stunning, I can’t remember seeing a movie that left a theater of New Yorkers in sustained silence. My admiration to the filmmakers and journalists at the @guardian and beyond who made it

The extraordinary guitarist Shane Parish has new music out today called (and sold to offset the cost of) Dental Work. What can I say about this guy except he calls to mind Neil Young, Eno, John Fahey, Alice Coltrane and Chet Baker and is all his own shaneparish.bandcamp.com

This essay rocked my world when it came out, very much time for a reread
"League of Men" (from Issue 28): on the faulty Rolling Stone UVA rape story; "Little Red Riding Hood" as a myth type preserved across cultures as a cautionary tale of rape; and mannerbunde (or "leagues of men") 4,000 years ago nplusonemag.com/issue-28/ess…

Hard to describe the eeriness of the Brooklyn evening before the storm. The sky is the color of sherbet that’s been left on the counter too long. The birds seem startled! The air is electric. Not so much let’s say Lynch as the fake New York backdrop in Hitchcock’s Rope
