“We were foolish to believe after WWII, the world will never forget. At least back then, people could use the excuse they did not know. And now what you’re really saying, is not that you don’t know, is just that you don’t want to see.”

Once again this year, we have examples of #HMRC letters about enquiries/investigations & penalties/demands arriving over the Christmas & New Year period. One example is a (wrongly issued) penalty arriving on New Year’s Eve.
Unacceptable & unnecessary & causing much distress.
We have written to @JimHarraHMRC about the unnecessary and cruel @HMRCgovuk practice of sending letters & making calls regarding the #LoanCharge & other bills/demands just before Christmas. There should a policy of no such action from 16th December to 2nd January.

Hear #LCAG member Niall tell @NickFerrariLBC how HMRC failures resulted in massive #LoanCharge demand. What's your story?

"HMRC has been telling people lies."
Former airline pilot Niall Finucane explains how he ended up with a £205,000 loan charge bill for tax avoidance - despite HMRC assuring him the scheme was legitimate.

As @HMRCgovuk have only taken action against individuals who were mis-sold loan schemes, promoters have been given a green light to continue selling safe in the knowledge that @Jesse_Norman says they have done "nothing wrong" (see @LordsEconCom minutes)
Stop hurting the victims

Sadly some of those 'reprehensible' people are tory donors and their croneyism has got them lucrative PPE contracts
Those 'reprehensible' people scammed thousands, skimmed off the tax that should have been paid as 'fees' (for little or no work)
Now their victims are paying!

#LoanCharge: a very British #Tax #Scandal
#coronavirus another life-altering issue has been forced on to 50K #taxpayers many facing hefty bills they cannot afford, and MPs are reporting cases of #suicides connected to it.

HMRC are a black box of deceit and they continue to make mistakes with poor data and illegal behaviour. there is no independent oversight so they will be allowed to continually breach their code of conduct

@pauljholmes
The treatment of many people facing the #LoanCharge by HMRC is appalling. A case has been shared with us where HMRC phoned the individual’s partner who was undergoing chemotherapy, without authorisation & without being supplied with that phone number. Malpractice & a data breach.

On #WorldMentalHealthDay we must remember everyone whose health has been affected by the #loanchargescandal. The (to quote the Morse review) serious distress linked to this policy caused misery for many honest people. My thoughts are with you all. #loancharge #WMHD2020

It seems like @RishiSunak & @JimHarraHMRC do not care about the impact their retrospective legislation is having on 100,000 plus their families
They fail to listen to the 220+ MPs on @loanchargeAPPG - a deliberate deaf ear not even really bothering to respond..😐

There is no 'getting away with it'. Retrospective taxation is unjust, immoral and not legal.
If anyone got away with anything it was the Indian (and British) tax authorities acting in a downright outrageous manner.
No more.

Congratulations to multinational corporation Vofafone on not being subject to a retrospective tax. Sadly this is not the case for 10s of thousands of people in the UK facing the unjust retrospective taxation of the #LoanCharge @RishiSunak you are responsible. Stop this now.

@ContractorCalc @PrivateEyeNews @EamonnHolmes Extreme hypocrisy - HMRC use "disguised remuneration schemes" 5 years after the law apparently made it "very clear" they weren't valid. This stench gets worse and worse and needs to be front page news

This is serious. @HMRCpressoffice . You cannot do this to people who are suicidal. The world is watching you.
The dishonesty of @HMRCpressoffice must be investigated. Whoever has sent & authorised the deliberately dishonest tweets must be disciplined. Those involved have surely made their positions untenable. Will you take action @JimHarraHMRC? The case is of a suicidal person. Shameful.
