Ten years running my own business. The struggle is real. Fear and worry when things go wrong. And they have. The risk of making permanent decisions about temporary problems. .@incentivising put it well: "Most people do not lack the skill to pull off a comeback. In most cases, they lack the rationality and clarity required to survive a crisis." I have survived a decade by not quitting during the moments when quitting made perfect sense.

Over the next two years, domain-specific models, small reasoning models, agentic AI and multimodal capabilities will enable the scaling of GenAI solutions. Plan for these emerging technologies, as they’re key to outpacing competitors in innovation, efficiency and growth: gtnr.it/47oH99Q

I analyzed 470 YC startup positioning statements. Most of them describe the company. The best ones describe the world. Reporters first want to know what's broken, and then how you'll fix it.

Your brand got left out of a ChatGPT answer and nobody in your org noticed. That's the problem. AI discoverability is already shaping how people find products and services, and most comms teams are still measuring visibility by search rankings and press clips.

.@berber_jin1 at the WSJ is doing the best AI business reporting right now. OpenAI missed revenue targets. Anthropic turned a profit. The financial reality of AI is diverging from the narrative, and @berber_jin1 is one of the few reporters actually tracking the gap.

The interesting part about Apple building an AI recommendation layer, per @markgurman's reporting, is that it turns your phone into an editorial desk. Something is deciding which brands get mentioned and which don't. That decision used to belong to journalists and algorithms you could optimize for. This one you mostly can't.

.@mikeisaac's piece on Zuckerberg centralizing Meta's AI efforts reads like a product story but it's really a comms story. "Decentralization" in big tech almost always means the opposite of what it sounds like. This is a reorg with better branding, and honestly, the branding is pretty good.

Google, Meta, and Microsoft are all expanding AI headcount right now. Their press releases still talk about efficiency and doing more with less. The hiring budgets tell you what they actually believe. The press releases tell you what they want you to believe.

The quiet part about @markgurman's reporting on Apple changing how Siri surfaces recommendations is that shelf placement just moved. It used to be a retail negotiation, then a search ranking, and now it's whatever Apple's AI decides to mention when you ask your phone a question. Each version gives brands less direct control than the last.

The OpenAI rogue agent breach that @zeffmax wrote about is the kind of incident that rewrites the comms playbook. AI acting on your behalf is still acting on your behalf. When the model goes off-script, the crisis lands on comms the same way a rogue employee's tweet does, except the model doesn't have a phone number you can call.

OpenAI has the loudest narrative in AI right now. Anthropic just turned a profit. One of these is a better indicator of where the industry is actually heading than the other, and it's not the one generating the most headlines.
20
Zuckerberg keeps releasing Llama models and doing press about open-source AI while OpenAI locks everything down. The genius of it is that he doesn't even have to make the argument himself. OpenAI's instinct to close ranks makes Meta look like the generous alternative by default. Best comms campaign in tech right now and most people think it's a product story.

Someone asks ChatGPT for a recommendation and your brand doesn't show up. That's a pitch you lost without knowing there was a meeting. The new media list is schema markup, structured content, authority signals. The tricky part is that the rejection isn't visible.

The EU AI Act starts enforcement in phases this year and most comms teams haven't even read the risk classifications yet. Compliance is a legal problem until the first fine hits. Then it's a comms problem. And by then you're writing the statement instead of shaping the story.

New data from @semrush: 43% of shoppers discovered a brand through AI. 22% bought something directly inside one. Twenty years of funnel optimization and now one in five purchases happens in a chatbot window most companies don't know exists.
26
.@mags_h11 found a PR firm using at least 15 fake AI personas to pitch journalists. The whole setup: AI-generated headshots, fabricated email addresses, dummy websites. The clients didn't even know. The tools got cheap enough that a firm can fabricate an entire team overnight and start sending pitches by morning. The barrier to faking credibility just dropped to near zero. Every legitimate pitch now has to compete with that noise. And the reporters getting pitched have no fast way to tell the difference.

google's omni model + podcast ugc is actually insane this entire conversation is ONE generation i didn't have to stitch any clips together. simply pasted the exchange and it came back talking i've tested this format to death and mastered the exact setup that makes 2 ai people feel like a real scroll stopping podcast it's the best converting style i've touched and nobody is running it yet so f*ck it, i'm giving away the whole system: > the exact build, script to finished video, in about 5 mins > how i make full 60s video generations in 1 prompt, no editing > the two person script trick that sells without pitching > my starting image rules (this is where realism lives) rt + comment "PODCAST" if you want the full system, and i'll send it (gotta be following so i can dm)
