This is all positive - that the Government and the EU are discussing real options will give the summit real weight, and Andyās statement on available options the gravity it needs.
For too long British politicians have sold fantasy options to the U; that Andy is focused on whatās real is a big and welcome change.

Sounds like the kind of lowkey diplomatic chatter that should be normal in any major relationship, exploring ideas in a broad fashion to test boundaries with no firm commitments.
Just that it hasn't really happened before in UK-EU relations.

Congratulations to my friend @LulaOficial on his electoral victory.
Democracy and multilateralism have won in Brazil.
Europeās partnership with Brazil is thriving.
We will remain by your side for the years to come.
Together we will keep working closely for free and open trade.
A rules-based global order.
And strong ambitions for our climate.

In one day, two politicians - Bolsonaro in Brazil and Vucic in Serbia - with ties to Trump and his family have lost surprise elections, thanks to high turnout. The rise of the international far-right is not inevitable.
Cutting the aid budget was a mistake that should in future be rectified. For now we should ensure the full 0.3% budget is spent in 2027 as planned. The current shortfall is a small amount of our budget than can do a lot of good overseas. We should ensure it does.

Incredible come back from President Lula. A huge win for the people of Brazil and, given the implications for the Amazon and environment, for us all.

Incredible result in Serbia - a testament to the hard work and inspiration of the students and their allies. A moment to celebrate democracy and hope.

Note to the EU haters. You can hate it. Many do. But it is still the UK's neighbours being in a club that the UK has to deal with from a point of weakness. Geography denial has failed, obviously. So far the only serious idea I've seen is "muddle through". Is that it?
UK offering Freedom of Movement would be the game changer for conversations with the EU, one of the trio of people, pounds and positivity I identified earlier this year as crucial to any significant move to removing barriers.

Brexit was the greatest act of economic self-harm in our countryās history, leaving Londoners nearly Ā£3,400 worse off on average.
Iāve written to the government calling for closer ties with Europe to help businesses grow, lower costs and improve living standards.
Rejoining the EU must remain our destination.

We must pay attention to this. The country needs impartial, high quality, respected, accessible news. Once lost it will be hard to rebuild, far better to act now to protect the jobs, expertise and institutional memory while we can.
How do you restore authority and distinctiveness to BBC News, as the corporation says it wants to do, while also imposing Ā£50m+ of cuts? I was one of the panel on the Radio 4 Media Show, arguing that you canāt do both things.

So this is a big deal, and perhaps even *the day Brexit delusions die*. For the EU threatens to restrict automotive sector access unless the UK follows its trade and investment rules. And China threatens to retaliate if the UK does what the EU wants. politico.eu/article/china-thā¦
Why are we allowing the BBC to be dismbered before our eyes? We donāt have to, we have the tools available to put the BBC on a sound footing now. The longer we wait, the more services, and the more jobs, are lost.

Elon Musk and Donald Trump decided to punish Zelenskyy by throttling Starshield because of domestic US fuel prices, and Ukrainians were killed by Russian attacks as a result.
That didnāt bother Musk though, the only thing he cared about was his profit margin.
EXCLUSIVE: Elon Musk came to Donald Trump with the plan to throttle Ukraineās use of SpaceXās Starshield satellite internet network, sources have told the Telegraph.
The tech billionaire made the proposal during the US Presidentās row with Volodymyr Zelensky over strikes on Russian oil refineries.
āThe reality is that they were both in it,ā a senior source said of Muskās and Trumpās involvement.
But after a night of carnage in Kyiv caused by the slowdown, Musk was alarmed about the possibility of adverse consumer reaction in Europe.
The SpaceX boss then proceeded to tweet, blaming the US administration, and ultimately, President Trump for authorising the slowdown.
āHe tweeted out that he was innocent and that it was the US administration that did it,ā the source said.
Alignment with the EU on tariffs on Chinese vehicles is a small price to pay to gain access to the Industrial Accelerator Act and safeguard the UK auto sector. I hope the whole of UK manufacturing can be included come the end of negotiations, our other manufacturers too need access to suppliers and markets.

Here the voice of caution, and the voice of 2016, and the voice of lost ambition is captured in full flow.
In the world of 2026 however we have to make the case, as Andy is, that Brexit has done more harm than good.
Not only that, it has left us brutally exposed in a volatile world.
For the economy, for defence, for the interests of Makerfield, Newcastle and Manchester this debate must be had and won.
