Why is segregated education problematic? When children of diverse backgrounds learn together, they learn to live, work and govern together. When they're learning is segregated, they make society segregated. Segregation creates injustice and tolerates evil. We must end it.
Since Brown vs Topeka Bd of Ed, Florida politians have tried to privatize public education despite our constitution calling for a system of free public schools. The issue was & is desegregation. Segregation is rising thru privatization. Amen! says the Republic(an).

They won't call it a ban. Yet not only has my book been moved, but now elementary schoolers must request a copy from a specialist at its new site AND then also PROVE their reading level before seeing a copy. All these hurdles for a young reader just to access a poem in history written for them. @MDCPS , history is not ours to hoard from children. History has always been theirs to make. And the more they're empowered to know our yesterdays, the more prepared they will be to lead us into tomorrow.

American Academy of Pediatrics says critical factor how students learn to read “is not how aggressively,” they get instruction, but their “own enthusiasm for learning.” Early programs might "interfere" with that enthusiasm.

To address the teacher shortage issue, we must address the teacher respect issue in our country. We must stop normalizing providing teachers with inadequate resources to be successful.
