We (rightly) know nothing about the Panchkula assaulter, not sure how replies are confident he's Muslim too? Besides, THAT is not the (only) point here. Indian Muslims have to regulate their emotions to avoid undue targeting. I would have burned the place down.
I'm a little gobsmacked at this level of restraint. Is this how much India has terrified its Muslim population that anger — the kind of bloodcurdling anger a parent feels at the sight of their hurt child — also feels risky to access? No parent should have to withhold this way...

this is such a imp point but the way people are like oh the boy is hindu/muslim. ffs that doesn't matter. it's a father from a minority community toning down his anger & calming his words because if he dares to qus the system or accuses them of negligence all hell will break lose

My school took us to watch Chak De India and Swades, films about women empowerment and grassroots development. In two decades, the slide has been incredible. Young kids know vulgar gesticulations and Islamophobic chants; violence is the language of the modern Indian nation-state.
If I am not wrong literal school kids were taken to watch chhaava, a film which has an extreme violent scene (totally unnecessary) that runs for almost 7 mins. Aag lagne ke baad koi fark nahi parta match kiske haath mein thi aur tili kisne jalayi.

Two horrific cases of macabre violence today in the news both involving school girls. We can't even protect our little children in schools anymore in this godforsaken place.

Panchkula, Haryana: On the alleged assault of his six-year-old daughter by an eight-year-old boy inside a government school, the girl's father Rashid says, "Look, it was an unfortunate incident that happened at that time. The teachers were not present, as it was the festive season and one of the teachers was unwell. The incident happened during that period when no one was present near the CCTV cameras..."

Every mainstream Telugu hero is responsible for this savagery. Telugu cinema glorifies stalking, harassment, refusal to take no for an answer, and is cavalier about sexual assault, passing it off for romance. It's vile and disgusting.
Andhra Pradesh Chainsaw Horror! This is 21 year old Hemanth. He took a chainsaw into a school and hacked 14 year old Gopika and her friend inside the classroom. Both girls are in critical condition. The videos of the incident are absolutely horrifying. Gopika looks like a bundle of flesh and blood. The other victim’s both legs have been hacked. Many are sharing the unedited videos without thinking. Hemanth apparently is a relative of Gopika and he proposed to her. The girl rejected his love and an enraged Hemanth took a chainsaw and senselessly attacked the girl. Hemanth was arrested a little while ago near Dharmavaram Railway Station. He neither showed remorse or fear for what he did. Incidents like this are common in the country, the degree of shock varies from incident to incident. But we as a society have become absolutely numb. There will be sermons after sermons about women’s clothes, dupattas, social behavior but no man/ boy will be ever taught about concent & choice of individuals.

Google had to cannibalize a business where they have 90% market share (Search) to build a business where they have 25% market share (Gemini) If you think 30% decline in the stock from the top is bad, buckle up because it should be 50% at least

Sam Altman says its bad that everyone's personal computers are using the world's limited supply of memory chips. "It’s quite terrible to have everybody have a bunch of the world’s limited supply of DRAMs sitting in their own computer, and being used 5% of the time. Like, you want maximum utilization."

The PRESS TRUST OF INDIA (not that it has much credibility left) is sharing the video of a wife washing her husband's feet. In 20-fucking-26. Back in the day we made fun of shmucks like this; now you have mainstream platforms highlight inane regressiveness on the daily. Ew.

A movie is dull and one moves on; but I saw one so arrantly, actively bad (every aspect, from images to script, from performances back to the basic idea, misjudged, inflated, ponderous, vague, banal), that it besmirches the cinema itself, makes the tools and the very format of...

Even a single billboard on the water is one too many. Light pollution harms human health as much as noise does, and it is regulated in many of the countries Mumbai wants to emulate. In August 2024, Awaaz sent suggestions and objections to the BMC's draft Hoardings Policy, which allowed unrestricted lighted hoardings across the city. In May, we wrote to the CM objecting to billboards along Bandra's coastal promenades. We attached policies from the US and UK to our objections. Yet Mumbai is now facing lighted billboards in our marine waters. Scientists and experts say floating billboards would bring "concentrated, high-radiance beacons right at the waterline, completely erasing natural marine dark corridors." Light from these LEDs can reach 40m underwater and disrupt plankton that feed in darkness, the base of our marine food chain. India endorsed global guidelines on light pollution for migratory wildlife in 2020. Why are we ignoring them now? timesofindia.indiatimes.com/… @CMOMaharashtra @mybmc @mpcb_official @timesofindia

The sea is all we have in Mumbai. It's the only third space where families can congregate without tearing their wallets. This government, its crony cabal of industrialists is so anti-poor! Had it not been for the nationalist project, we'd have heads rolling by now.
