The latest SBIDER seminar was by @WarwickComplex PhD student @mel95iac on "Mathematical models of malaria: the importance of biological realism and the effects of insecticide resistance".
For more on the topic, see a recent @PLOSCompBiol publication: doi.org/10.1371/journal.pcbi…

In this paper, Iacovidou and colleagues formulate a model that includes age-dependent mortality rates, an important parameter in vector control since control strategies most commonly aim to reduce the lifespan of the mosquitoes.

And now to Session 5 Talk 4 of the #WomenInMalaria conference (& featuring former lab neighbour of mine at Penn State!): Melissa Alexis Iacovidou of @warwickuni discusses "Modelling age-dependent mosquito mortality to quantify the potential of #malaria transmission."

Fascinating mathematical epidemiology from @mel95iac, showing that despite mosquitoes being insecticide resistant, vectorial capacity is reduced significantly between mosquitoes exposed to LLINs and controls. & vectorial capacity is very much mosquito age-dependent!
