Gary Miller did not begin his journey with the intention of becoming a Muslim. Gary Raymond Miller is a Canadian mathematician who was actively involved in Christian evangelism before embracing Islam. He was deeply interested in studying religions and discussing theological beliefs. During the 1970s, he decided to read and carefully examine the Holy Quran, searching for contradictions he could use to criticize Islam and debate Muslims. The Search That Changed His Life According to published accounts of his conversion, when Miller began reading the Holy Quran, he was surprised to discover verses that invited people to think, reflect, and contemplate. What particularly caught his attention was that the Quran openly challenged those who doubted its divine origin to examine it for inconsistencies and contradictions. Allah Almighty says in the Holy Quran: “Do they not then reflect upon the Quran? Had it been from anyone other than Allah, they would have certainly found in it many inconsistencies.” Quran 4:82 Published accounts also describe how he was deeply affected by Surah Maryam (Mary), particularly the Quran’s teachings about the prophets, including Jesus, the son of Mary (peace be upon them). As he continued his studies, he began reconsidering his previous beliefs. Eventually, he became convinced of the truth of Islam and embraced the faith around 1978, becoming known as Abdul-Ahad Omar. From Preaching Christianity to Introducing Others to Islam His journey did not end with his conversion. After embracing Islam, Gary Miller began delivering lectures discussing the Holy Quran, Islamic beliefs, and Christianity. One of his best-known lectures is “The Amazing Quran,” in which he explores the remarkable characteristics of the Quran and the reasons he found its message so compelling. What makes his story particularly noteworthy is that his conversion is not merely a modern tale circulating on social media. In March 1984, a Canadian newspaper published by Dalhousie University documented his participation in a religious lecture and reported that he had embraced Islam approximately six years earlier. He began his journey searching for evidence he could use against Islam, yet ultimately became a believer in its message, speaking about the Quran and encouraging others to study and reflect upon its teachings. His story reminds us that a sincere search for truth can sometimes lead a person to a destination they never expected.
