You need to be great at communicating if you want to work remotely.
Because your employer can't read your mind.
Your team can't guess what you're working on.
And silence can easily be mistaken for disengagement.
Learn to give updates, ask questions, listen actively
Let me find a husband so we share bills 🤣🤣🤣

@mieyolisa as an HR consultant, what advice would you give to person who feels like this?
Asked Gemini to be sending new research in my field daily. I understand why Mr. @memorynguwi is scientific. I'm picking up new studies that can add value to my consulting work. The power of AI, I don't have to sit and search for information for hours.
The little feedback that reminds me why I coach. ❤️
Last night, I had one of those coaching sessions that reminded me why I continue doing what I do.
If you know how hot Namibia has been lately, you will understand why I sometimes dread my evening coaching sessions. By the end of a long working day, the heat has already taken its toll, and the thought of another session can feel exhausting.
But last night's session was different. It was one of those sessions that left me feeling fulfilled.
I hold a Master's degree in HIV/AIDS Management, a qualification I pursued after spending some years working on HIV/AIDS projects. At the time, my dream was to work for the United Nations. That dream never materialised, and looking back, perhaps it was a blessing in disguise. The demanding nature of some of those roles, coupled with my struggles with anaemia, might not have been the best combination for me.
But here's what I've come to appreciate about our career journeys: Nothing we learn or experience is ever truly wasted.
The experience I gained working on HIV/AIDS projects has become incredibly valuable in my coaching work, particularly when preparing professionals for roles within NGOs and international development organisations. I understand the environment, the language, the expectations and the realities of working in that sector.
Last night, my client said something that genuinely touched me. She told me that even if I called her after she secured the job and sent her another invoice, she wouldn't hesitate to pay because our coaching session had given her an entirely new perspective.
That little feedback meant more to me than she probably realised.
There are days when I pray for a breakthrough, perhaps a big consulting project that would mean I wouldn't have to spend so many evenings coaching people. Sometimes, after a demanding day, I just want to go home, rest and do absolutely nothing.
But then I have sessions like last night's, and I am reminded that coaching has never been just about the money for me.
Of course, I charge for my time, knowledge and experience. In fact, my coaching fees are highly subsidised when I consider the amount of preparation, expertise and personal attention that goes into each session.
But the real reward is in the testimonies.
It's the client who returns to say, "I got the job."
It's the professional who walks into an interview with renewed confidence.
It's the person who suddenly sees possibilities in themselves that they couldn't see before our conversation.
And sometimes, it's simply someone telling me that one conversation has completely changed how they think about their career.
Those are the moments that keep me going, even on the hottest evenings when I would rather be resting.
I've come to realise that perhaps I didn't get to work for the UN, but the knowledge and experience I acquired along the way are still serving a meaningful purpose today.
Sometimes, the career you dreamed of doesn't materialise, but the experience you gained while pursuing it becomes the very thing that helps you transform someone else's life.
And that, for me, is impact.
I don't just coach people to get jobs. I coach to transform.
Is it too early to be a motivational speaker? 🤣🤣
