i am always of the opinion that any degree of censorship in fanfic is a slippery slope but on the flip side … my god, the way some of y’all are still in your “omega shane smells like mango sticky rice” bag is doing me psychic damage on the daily
surya@narivaaaal18h
the problem i’m having is that my fundamental belief is that fanfic is meant for exploring any kind of concept w/ any level skill & writers are allowed to write abt whatever they want but it’s hard to stand by these beliefs when everyone only writes things that piss you off

well yes bc when i was 16 i thought 91,000 words was a reasonable one shot length until ao3 told me no 😭

do you know how LONG your chapter needs to be for even ao3 to tell you its too long

anyway i just think hollanov would be in love in every universe and also that they’re jealous and crazy and bitch4bitch and a little off-putting to everyone else around them with the intensity of All That so let’s all live

like i don’t wanna be rude but some of y’all are happily reading hollanov play an AU version of the sport of hockey with invented rules and nonsensical achievements and a positive locker room culture btw 😅 like we’re all using our imaginations i think!
oli 🖤🦭 met dnp!!@minrozanovOct 26
the widespread distaste for non-hockey AUs amongst hr fans is sooo wild to me given most of y’all openly say you don’t care about hockey in the first place

with how curated and specific you have to be on ao3 to find fics, it always surprises me when people just accidentally stumble upon the worst type of ragebait fics clearly written by dungeon dwellers. and now it's everybody's problem when it could just be ignored into oblivion.

y’all we had this discourse in like dec/jan where those of us who write these fics pointed out that shane’s autism and personal drive make it narratively compelling to see him go all in on other professions and that it is in most cases not a malicious or discriminatory choice
jane (birdie)@tuna_meltedOct 25
canonically its ilya who is less obsessed with hockey n would probably leave it for shane but i see way too many hockey player ilya/normal guy shane fics/hcs and y'all need to contemplate a bit about why you do that.

i’m literally asian and a former elite athlete, and still had ppl tell me that giving him an injury was a feminizing racist projection on my part 😭 i know this DOES happen in the worst cases (and my shanes always have a hockey interest/history regardless) but let’s take a breath

y’all gotta stop moralizing fic choices to the extent you do bc you will chase writers away from literally ANY complex character choice
