There's a bit of sadness when you're at a restaurant and the food isn't delivered by Your Server.
"and who ordered the Alfredo?"
You don't know us at all. Jenny would know. Jenny would know who ordered the Alfredo.

I wish more people talked about how painful it is to grieve someone who is still alive.

A thread on why research skills gained at university level can be life-saving: 18 years ago my mum told me she’d seen a tick on her arm. I was studying for my PhD in York while she was five hours south of me. A week later she said a bulls-eye rash had emerged around the bite. – at South East, England

Love won’t rescue you.
It won’t take away uncomfortable feelings.
It won’t heal your wounds— sometimes it’ll open them.
Releasing the idea of love as perfection is the first step of emotional maturity.
Love is a choice, not a feeling.

If you aren’t sorry, don’t apologize.
Apologizing to keep the peace is a form of self betrayal.
Apologize when you regret your behavior and know you can do better.

Doctors say that to understand the fatigue of a person with a chronic illness, a "normal person" would have to stay awake for three days straight and then try to function.
But yes please continue to tell me you are just as tired as I am.

40 is young.
Life is longer than you think.
The idea that “it’s all downhill” after our 20s is one of the greatest (and most believed) lies of our culture.
Reject age dysfunction.
LIVE, til you die.

disclosure of disability is only helpful if those hearing it won't contribute to stigmatization. and I think we have lived in this idea of a perfect world that if we just told people, they would understand and they would accept us and accommodate, but that is not the reality.

A healthy partner wants to meet your needs.
They listen to your requests, and don't shut down feedback.

Many have claimed to accept that I’m autistic and later criticised me for being too literal, too direct or for misunderstanding them. But, accepting someone’s neurodivergence requires you to accept all their neurodivergence-related differences - even those you find inconvenient.

as a disabled person, I struggle with the reality that I have to effectively advocate for myself in order to get the services/support I need- but if I self-advocate "too well" then I'm seen as competent, too "high-functioning" & thus (allegedly) don't require any assistance/help.

just realized some of my most intense moments of anxiety is when i imagine someone taking something i said the wrong way and twisting my words. accusing me of saying something so awful. and what if they do? i never realized before this anxiety is from being misunderstood.

Things I was taught throughout my medical training that I've stopped believing:
-patients lie to get what they want
-patients are unreliable
-10 out of 10 pain is rare
-patients who don't get better are non-compliant
-patients who don't get better have psychiatric problems
-the end justifies the means when it comes to medical treatment
-medical consent is a piece of paper
I am not perfect. But I am learning. And the best teacher isn't my professors' voices in my head or the textbooks, but the person who sits right in front of me in the exam room.
