I believe he should has several scars from training with Sasuke. Not that Sasuke is cruel, he just face his disciple's determination seriously. While Boruto treat the scars like a reminder of his mistake/flaw and train harder.

A Boruto/Kawaki rivalry is far better than a rivalry with no stakes like Boruto and Sarada's. Also for it to exist, Sarada would have to be a juxtaposition of Naruto like Boruto is of Sasuke, which would make her a far less interesting of a character than she is now.

This sequel's fault btw. She had hope before ts. She was positioned as parallel mc in gaiden/movie era closing hinted Boruto/sarada inherited the torch of their father's rivals Her concept went down the drain when sequel was decided. Kawaki was introduced for easy shonen trope
