Clayton should be fired for these dumb lineups
With Chandler Simpson batting third, this is the 4th time a player with 0 career HR (incl PS) started a World Series game hitting 3rd, joining:
1916 WS G3 & 5 Chick Shorten
1914 WS G2 Ted Cather
A testament to the way he impacts the game!

Please stop pretending and implying in your posts that these specific two organizations (and Cleveland for that matter) are "anti analytics." It's flat out objectively, provably, 100% false and wildly ignorant.
Tampa and Milwaukee are some of the biggest employers of analytics, R&D, and performance science in the league. Tampa THE largest hub for "analytics" in the league. Source linked in replies.
But most importantly, PLEASEEEE stop associating the term "analytics" with one philosophy of baseball! I have no idea why more people in baseball media or on this app don't set the distinction more often:
Analytics = insight from data
"Analytics" ≠ one specific hitting/pitching philosophy
"Analytics" ≠ home runs good, contact bad
"Analytics" ≠ contact good, home runs bad
Analytics is literally just getting insight from data. We have lots and lots of it now from the rapid improvement in technology over the years. Hawkeye cameras allow us to track things (especially on the non-proprietary, public side of things) that were unimaginable in the past. We have access to a growing, vast volume of data that was not available before this technology existed.
Analytics is literally just using this information to draw insights.
This consists of:
- Tampa optimizing a lineup that works well on the Trop turf
- Tampa optimizing pitch shapes that work well in their dome
- Milwaukee's projection systems and scouting department that has allowed them to derive as much value from the IFA market as they have over the years
- and much much more
Analytics *COULD* lead one to believe more contact is needed
Analytics *COULD* lead one to believe more pop is needed
There is no one, cookie cutter, one size fit-all philosophy that "analytics" subscribes you to. It is quite literally just the means of arriving at said philosophy and the evidence you use to prop that philosophy up.

If the Rays and Brewers meet in the World Series it’s going to be streamed live on Microsoft Excel.

Yeah, a business that has payrolls in the tens of millions is worried about saving a few bucks on broadcasting.
This move was about Jack McMullen. They believe he’s one of the best broadcasters in baseball and they wanted to promote him so they didn’t lose him.
That’s it.

Ely whiffs less than Arraez
The Marlins' broadcast shake-up might not be about what Kyle Sielaff did WRONG.
@RealEly makes the case that Miami's decision was driven by what Jack McMullen has done RIGHT.
Led the league in innings at a sub-4 but his value is at its lowest
Replying to @USS_DNYCE78 @Masterflip_
I mean he is a one year rental and really didn't have a great year. Pretty mediocre if anything. Has not been the same since TJ. His value is at its lowest. Would realistically be a lesser deal than the Peralta trade imo. He also doesnt move the needle at this point also imo
Just a PSA, there are plenty of things that you can legitimately shit on the Marlins for without having to manufacture it over a TV crew shuffle. You can also feel bad for the departed broadcasters without having to make it some sort of injustice. So much weird behavior.
Don't have to guess what the narrative around this will be from fans. But a 12 person crew was very abnormal. While I feel bad for all those losing their jobs, I'm looking forward to a bit more consistently, hopefully. This is what most other booths in the league have.
NEW: Per sources, the Marlins today informed Kyle Sielaff, Jeff Nelson, Craig Minervini and Rod Allen that they won't return next season.

MLB has proposed returning to a 154-game Regular Season, best-of-seven Division Series, and opponent selection in the Wild Card and Division Series
Starting in 2029, shortening the season to a 154-game schedule would create a standard weekly off day benefiting player health, and it would allow the addition of up to 8 more Postseason games by moving to a best-of-seven Division Series format
Beginning in 2027, higher-seeded clubs in the Wild Card and Division Series would select their opponents
