Maomao is not just a simple apothecary: she is the daughter of Lakan, leader of the La Clan and one of the Three SanGong, the country’s supreme strategist and the man with the greatest military power, feared by everyone and surpassed in rank only by the Emperor. For Lakan, no one matters more than Maomao and his wife Fengxian; putting her at risk means earning the direct fury of the imperial army. The La Clan is self-sufficient and completely neutral, with no factions at court and no favors owed to other nobles. They are respected because they are genuine geniuses in their fields: Luomen in medicine, Lahan in finance, Lakan in military tactics, and Maomao in botany and deduction. This neutrality makes Maomao a figure outside the intrigues and dirty games, shielding her from open attacks and from attempts to use her as a hostage, since no one wants to force Lakan to intervene. Even though she gets into trouble because of her drive to solve everything, the court begins to fear her and treat her as the protected of a titan, which also makes her the most coveted marriage alliance for any man seeking the backing of her clan. She is also the love interest of Jinshi, the second most powerful man in the country, who has the resources, influence, and power to change laws or palace structures in her favor. Backed by two men who would do anything for her, Maomao is untouchable for most people, although this also puts her in the sights of powerful enemies who want to break Jinshi or Lakan, trapping them in a deadly trap from which no one emerges unscathed. Even though she calls herself a simple servant, being a princess of the La Clan and having the affection of the prince make her practically untouchable. Added to all this are her own merits: a genius apothecary with a medical vocation, disciplined, altruistic, and with a strong sense of justice, who uses her privileges to resolve real crises, plagues, corruption, and rights reforms without ever abusing the immense power that surrounds her.
