I was once asked by a parent to speak with less of an accent in the classroom. I laughed. Communication is needed in education to teach children we are not all the same. Proud to be Scottish in #Norfolk

I never believed I’d be a BBC Foreign Correspondent. I could hardly string a sentence together in school. I was so painfully shy, words got stuck in my throat and I would write answers down to let friends speak for me. You never know what you can do until you give it a shot.
Know any 11-18 year olds with a story to tell? We’ve launched BBC Young Reporter to inspire young, UK-based talent from diverse backgrounds to come into the media industry. To find out more follow @BBCYoungReport #BBCYoungReporter #findyourvoice
