Democrat challenger Cait Conley is seeking to unseat Mike Lawler in New York Congressional District 17. A graduate of West Point with Masters Degrees from Harvard and MIT, she had extensive overseas service with various Special Operations Task Forces during the GWOT. Emerson College had her up by 3 pts over Lawler in an early Oct poll. Margin of error race.
The fight that we are in right now isn’t about partisanship. It’s about patriotism. I’m running because I truly believe that our best days as a nation are still ahead of us. And I will fight every day to ensure that our government delivers for working people again.

People often ask me "Who are the 29% of Americans who still support Trump?" It is people like this lady. They are all really dumb and there are tens of millions of them in America.

🇺🇦 🇺🇲 The confrontation inside Trump's Ukraine peace negotiations is now coming into focus. Le Monde reports that Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner spent nearly three hours pitching Ukraine's presidential chief of staff, Kyrylo Budanov, a postwar economic arrangement built around restoring Russian oil and gas flows to Europe through Ukrainian pipelines. The meeting took place on October 9 at the Shell Bay golf club in Florida. Witkoff presented the proposal as a regional prosperity plan: Ukraine would collect transit revenues, Europe would receive cheaper energy, and Russia would regain access to commercial routes disrupted by the war. Budanov saw something fundamentally different. According to a witness cited by Le Monde, he objected that the arrangement would recreate Ukraine's dependence on Moscow. “Our model is not Belarus, but Poland!” he reportedly replied. The meeting was interrupted, and Budanov called Zelensky. When talks resumed, news arrived that Trump had announced a separate agreement with Putin involving Russian diesel. Le Monde reports that an irritated Witkoff then demanded that the Ukrainians accept the arrangement and stop striking Russian oil refineries, arguing that the attacks endangered the wider world. A source familiar with the Ukrainian delegation described its members as exceptionally distressed by the encounter. The account adds a revealing dimension to the commercial negotiations we have been tracking. The proposed Lukoil asset sale, Novatek's involvement in an Alaska LNG venture, the broader US-Russia list of business opportunities reported by the Financial Times, and now the proposed restoration of Russian energy transit through Ukraine all point to the prominence of energy deals in Washington's diplomatic approach. These are separate proposals, with different participants and legal circumstances. But Le Monde's reporting exposes the strategic disagreement underlying them. For Witkoff, restoring commercial flows appears to be part of the mechanism for producing a peace settlement. For Budanov, according to the account, those same flows threaten to restore Moscow's economic leverage over Ukraine. The reported exchange also raises a question about sequencing: why was Kyiv being pressed to stop attacking Russian refineries while Russia continued striking Ukrainian energy infrastructure? Le Monde's reconstruction relies on accounts of a private meeting. The reported exchanges have not been independently confirmed by the participants. Source: Le Monde

All will be stolen, again and again, always the same, from 1918, a non-stop cycle of allowing western companies to modernize the country, then confiscating those companies, rinse, repeat, over and over. This time the Trump family will get an enormous cut going in, leaving American companies holding the bag.

I agree. To return to the negotiating table as a participant rather than an appetiser, Europe must escalate: create a problem whose resolution requires its involvement. The obvious starting point is to confiscate Russia’s financial assets frozen in Europe and use them to support Ukraine’s defence of the inviolability of Europe’s borders. Europe would then hold a decisive stake in any financial settlement - and a seat that Washington and Moscow could no longer simply arrange between themselves.
In light of Norway’s 🇳🇴 and Finland’s 🇫🇮 peace efforts, it is important to stress that Europe 🇪🇺 faces a momentous choice: either to accept Russia’s agenda and acquiesce in a new reality imposed by force, or to act, in both word and deed, in pursuit of a just and lasting peace that ultimately secures a free, united Europe with real geopolitical clout.

I posted earlier about economic conditions for working-class Americans in what we’re told is the Golden Age. Hopefully it eases your mind to know that while you and your family might be struggling, the Trump family is managing to squeak by okay. You may recall that one of Putin’s billionaire oligarch cronies picked up the tab for the lavish party in the Caribbean in May following Don Junior’s wedding. Just as I’m sure many ordinary Americans have done, Junior also enjoyed a hunting trip in Mongolia with the same Russian billionaire oligarch in August. The next logical step is to see them together on a bass boat fishing on the Santee Cooper. And Trump son-in-law and the guy negotiating on our behalf to resolve conflicts in the Middle East and in Europe, Jared Kushner, isn’t doing too shabby either thanks to the largesse of some of the same foreign leaders he’s supposed to be negotiating with. Remember how MAGA worked itself into a frenzy over allegations that Hunter Biden may have made a few million overseas during his father’s presidency? Well, that’s pocket change compared to the billions Kushner has raked in from the same countries he’s supposedly negotiating with as an official representative of the United States government. Recent surveys by Gallup and the Brennan Center show that 9 out of 10 Americans are concerned about government corruption. Count me among them.

🇵🇱 Polish Foreign Minister Sikorski: There is a myth that has been successfully planted in the West that Russia always wins. But things don't always go their way. They lost the Crimean War. They lost the war against Japan. They emerged from World War I with their tails between their legs. They lost their invasion of Poland. They lost Afghanistan. And they lost the Cold War. So things can turn out very differently.

Donald Trump Jr. went hunting in Mongolia with Russian oligarch Umar Kremlev, the FT reports. He arrived in late August with a US Secret Service detail and Republican donor Kevin Small. Kremlev and oligarch Artur Martirosov flew in later from Kazakhstan. They avoided joint photos, but organisers of Trump Jr.’s trip appeared in Kremlev’s video. Trump Jr. later met Mongolia’s president; a post about the meeting was deleted, and the visit was called unofficial. Kremlev had previously secretly paid hundreds of thousands of dollars towards Trump Jr.’s Bahamas wedding.

💯 spot on. The ad is vile. I don’t give a shit about big tent politics. The Democratic Party must condemn this outright.
If @AbdulElSayed truly means what he says about treating the Jewish community as he would treat his own children, then he would immediately condemn this dangerous ad as outrageously antisemitic and demand that it be taken down. If not, then he’s full of shit.

Because of Musk’s class B shares which give him 80% voting power, the board can’t do much. It will fall to the next Dem POTUS to revoke Musk’s security clearance (day one), and use the DoD, EPA, FCC and FAA to cripple SpaceX operations until he leaves of his own accord.
The damage Elon has done to SpaceX with his actions and tweets about Starlink & Starshield is massive. The board should step in.
