These illustrations come from a series of studies of ‘ancient armour’ by Ensign Samuel William Hall of the 73rd Regiment of Foot. Drawn in 1842, Hall’s intricate sketches depict various aspects of British & European weaponry & armour from the 13th & 14th centuries. #TheBlackWatch

On display in the museum is the pipe banner of Lt-Col Malcolm R. Wallace, who served in WW2 and Korea. His banner incorporates the Clan Wallace crest, with Wallace being the 34th Chief of the Clan. He was later Regimental Secretary to The Black Watch Association (1967 - 1978).

#OnThisDay in 1916, the Battle of the Somme began. The 8th Bn. The Black Watch suffered heavy losses, with 540 Other Ranks & 28 Officers killed, wounded, or missing by the end of July. Among them was Pte David Stewart, wounded on July 19 & died on August 6, aged 32. #WWI #Somme
