Hi, I'm Krasen. I build NameDaemon: 18 free tools for .com names, run on a daily snapshot of the whole .com zone. Find names that are really free, score them, watch the ones you can't have yet. No sign-up.

Tool tip: Domain Score. It splits a name into words and shows the score part by part: length, how in demand the words are, how readable. spacetech.com gets 98.1, working shown, so you know what to change.

Nearly every three-character .com is held, and so are about three in five four-character names. Five and six letters still have room, especially in patterns that sound like real words.

Glossary: DMARC. DMARC is a DNS policy that tells receiving mail servers what to do with email that fails SPF or DKIM checks, and where to send reports about it.

SPF lists who may send your email, DKIM signs each message, DMARC says what receivers do when a check fails. You need all three so others cannot fake your domain.

Glossary: Domain hack. A domain hack is a name where the extension completes the word, so the whole address reads as one word or phrase, such as short.ly or brand.ai.

.com is the safer default and .ai is a signal. .ai tells people you build AI products, but it is a country-code extension with its own rules and prices. Many founders register the .com first.

You can buy an expired domain in five steps: find a name near its drop, check its history, place a backorder, watch the last days, register when it is free. Good names attract many buyers.

To check domain availability, ask the registry, not a guess. A name missing from a list is not always free. Four ways to check, and what to do before you pay.

Glossary: DNS provider. A DNS provider is the company that runs the nameservers for a domain. It is often, but not always, the registrar or the web host.

Check a domain's history before you buy a used name: spam or a penalty in its past can follow you for months. Six steps, a few minutes each, to see what the name did before.

Tool tip: Lookalike Finder. Type a brand and see which mistypes of it are registered. For paypal.com, 165 of 223 lookalike names are (74%), by kind: omission, transposition, repetition, adjacent key.

Registrar, web host, DNS provider: three jobs, often one company. The registrar sells the name, the host stores the site, the DNS provider links the two.

Rules for the extension: it sends a name to our server only when you press Check, reads no page content, has no ads or analytics, and labels affiliate registrar links. What would you want an extension like this to promise?
