Did you know that South Africa is one of the world’s 17 megadiverse countries? From 09 -15 March 2026, we are celebrating #NationalGardensWeek and giving all South African citizens and residents the opportunity to enjoy this rich natural heritage by offering free access to our botanical and zoological gardens, on select days.
During this week, we’ll be hosting various events and activities at our different botanical and zoological gardens for visitors to enjoy.
Consider this your #PassportToNature! Restore, unwind and help us protect these beautiful spaces for future generations.

South Africa is one of 17 megadiverse countries in the world, with extraordinary biodiversity defined by species richness, high levels of endemism and diverse ecosystems across the terrestrial, freshwater, estuarine and marine realms and extending into our subantarctic territory.
This natural wealth is foundational to the wellbeing of South Africa’s people and underpins livelihoods and economic growth. These benefits rely on intact ecosystems, healthy species populations and genetic diversity.
