Prime Minister @AbiyAhmedAli has been appointed as the African Union Champion for Artificial Intelligence and Digital Health by the African Union. The announcement recognises his leadership and Ethiopia’s growing role in advancing artificial intelligence and innovation across the continent.
The appointment letter noted: “Your Excellency’s leadership in promoting digital transformation and emerging technologies has helped position artificial intelligence as a key tool for sovereignty, efficiency, and inclusive growth in Africa. Your continued advocacy for strategic autonomy and technological empowerment will be instrumental in positioning the continent as a global leader in responsible and equitable AI adoption.”
Ethiopia’s progress in digitization and artificial intelligence launched and accelerated significantly under the Prime Minister’s active engagement over the last few years. Initiatives such as the expansion of digital infrastructure, the rollout of e-government services, investments in innovation ecosystems, and the establishment of an AI institute and development of a national AI strategy have laid a strong foundation for transformation. In addition, plans to establish a dedicated AI university are expected to strengthen research, talent development, and continental collaboration in emerging technologies.

A major scientific milestone! A new study published in PNAS reveals 100,000-year-old Homo sapiens fossils and tools found in Ethiopia’s Afar Rift Valley.
Why it matters:
Reaffirms Ethiopia as the "Cradle of Humankind."
Fills a massive 700,000-year gap in the history of human evolution.
Reveals that the Afar desert was once a lush, green forest teeming with life.
Discovery led by Dr. Yonas Beyene and a team from 24 nations.
From ancient technology to environmental shifts, Ethiopia continues to rewrite the story of origins.

My first travel with #EthiopianAirlines was in 2010. Today we can enjoy four direct flights per week on the Addis Ababa 🇪🇹 - Warsaw 🇵🇱 route.
Looking at how dynamically the airlines have developed over the years arouses admiration and respect.
In 2011, they joined the #StarAlliance aviation family, bringing us even closer together.
