Look, man, that was a rough one for the #Nets. Just wrapped up our 90+ minute postgame show breaking everything down, and I have a lot of thoughts. First off, I don’t blame Mikel Brown Jr. for that loss. The Nets wouldn’t have even been in that position without him. It’s a tough mistake, especially for a rookie, but you keep your head up, learn from it, and move on. Brooklyn had plenty of opportunities to win that game long before the final possession. I’ve also been really impressed with how he’s handled everything since, both with his tweet and what he said to reporters afterward. That’s the kind of maturity you want to see from a young player, especially after a moment like that. My biggest takeaway from tonight regarding Mikel? I think he’s going to be a damn good player in clutch situations. He’s already shown a willingness to embrace those moments, and his ability to impact games in so many different ways is incredibly valuable. There’s a lot to be frustrated about with this Nets team right now, but Mikel is giving us plenty of reasons to be excited about his future.

This the accountability I want to see. Take it on the chin, head high, shoulders back & LEARN from these moments. I fucking love it, we needed this. 🤫
Mikel Brown Jr. on attempting the layup in the final seconds up one rather than pulling the ball out: “I did see the open lane, and I thought I had a layup, but the ball was kind of already slipping out of my hands, and PG was already coming towards my right side. So I felt like if I didn't go up with it, I kind of was gonna fall out of bounds. So that was my last resort, in all honesty, but I can't make an excuse. There's a lot of plays down the stretch that I messed up on, that I take full accountability for, and I'm gonna be better. Was it discussed before the play to dribble the ball out? “It was discussed to just try to get it in, and try to kill time. That definitely was discussed, but like I said, it's just mistakes down the stretch that I just can't make. I just can't do that."

Jordi Fernandez on the final possession of the game: "We're not supposed to switch there because we wanted to keep a bigger body on him. We did switch. He bumped contest and he got a shot that he can make... We wanted to maintain the matchup on Tatum with Noah Clowney because he's big... And then he bumped and then he shot over. And then Keon, who was on the ball, was supposed to track and contest that or help a little bit because we knew that most likely the shot was for him.”

The sample size is small, but it’s clear the Nets are a far better team with Mikel Brown Jr. on the floor. Things fall into place when the floor dictator is leading the ship and it’s clear he’s that guy. Easy to forget he’s a rookie.

You was probably hoping the nets lost to find a reason to talk like this because they didn’t draft someone who you liked. I know what sleeps in my house, this will light a fire of kel. We “The Brown Family” BELIEVE in coach Jordi and the Nets front office.
Boy that's a rough loss for Brooklyn. So many chances to put Boston away in overtime. One bad decision after another by Mikel Brown, but hard to blame a rookie guard in his third game and not the third-year head coach Jordi Fernández for better preparing his team for a moment like that. Keeping Brown in the game for a defense-only possession says it all to me about how ill-prepared Fernandez was. And the Nets remain winless.

So the Nets are 0-4, disappointing but seemingly improving while facing a murderers row of opponents after Opening Night. We won’t talk about Opening Night — total disaster performance in a game the Nets really had to win given the schedule. However, two final possession losses at Cleveland & Boston are valiant efforts. The Indiana game, albeit on the second night of a back to back, was not good enough. The individual bright spots have of course been the flashes from the Nets’ young trio of guards. Egor Dëmin’s 15-point 4th quarter leading the Nets’ spirited comeback in Cleveland, Nolan Traore’s first half tonight, and of course Mikel Brown Jr.’s 4th quarter heroics tonight. Need to turn the flashes into consistency (& hope Dëmin’s knee isn’t serious) but those moments have been something to hold onto during this early season struggle for the team.
