Are you the parent of a child 6-16 months old? We would love if you shared any videos you have taken of your child playing or feeding with us for our research on how babies use their hands. More information here: ucdperceptionmotorcog.com/pa…
This paper is In Press! Big thanks to everyone involved at all stages - those who designed & set up the study, the team who collected data for years, @AdamAttaheri & @RochaSinead who kept me sane during analysis. And of course to the babies & parents! sciencedirect.com/science/ar…
🚨🥁👶 It's the new preprint klaxon, repeating at a steady 2Hz!👶🥁🚨 We find that the preferred phase of infants' neural responses to simple, repetitive syllabic and drumbeat stimuli in infancy is related to their language performance at 12 to 24 months. psyarxiv.com/kdezm

Look at our power!!! Our strength in numbers will prevail over any attempts by UW Admin to isolate and threaten us. An injury to one, is an injury to all!

$5 billion for some dead monkeys and overblown claims. How much are actual BCI companies with feasible aims and real proof of concept worth, versus this Theranos-level crap?
And while we all know some derivative writers, the ballpen works even without the uncredited written input of millions of people.

Our project is now live on @EUCitSciProject. We encourage parents to think of themselves as citizen scientists and chroniclers of child development! Check it out: eu-citizen.science/project/4… @UCD_Research @UCDPsychology
In fantastic bird news, there's a duck nesting in a huge planter outside my work building. The caretaker spotted her. Now I'm using the side door to avoid disturbing her because expectant mothers deserve a stress-free life.
Sometimes I learn things that blow my mind. Sometimes those are interesting facts that give me a sense of wonder about the world. And sometimes I learn that expulsion is a punishment tactic used by preschools.
Also would it surprise anyone at all that black preschoolers & preschoolers with disabilities are more likely to be expelled. My priors for EXPELLING TODDLERS were non existent but after getting that info, there was a 100% posterior probability of there being racism afoot.
I listened to this today & it was nice to hear someone way more qualified than me articulate my view that people without children - like me! - benefit massively from childcare that others provide & pay for. My view is that it should be subsidised (also if provided by parents).
NEW ODD LOTS
@TheStalwart and I have talked a lot about broken supply chains for goods, but what about services?
We speak with UMass-Amherst economics professor @NFolbre about why the cost of childcare in the US has exploded.

Enjoying some American pomp and circumstance today. Brass band playing Smells Like Team Spirit beats British choir singing Te Deum, sorry.
Even the new Twitter can deliver when cool helpful people are on here. And while copyright libraries exist.
Now I have a copy of this and a copy of the Halverson prehension paper this is based on. Just in case that information is helpful to anyone else on an academic hunt...
The library here just emailed me to say they can't find their physical copy so I'm throwing an request into the aether: research.aota.org/ajot/artic…
If anyone has access I will be forever grateful. Otherwise I'm flying to Madison, WI to pull a 1970s thesis.

Can't quite believe I'm writing this: Today, 150 African workers behind ChatGPT, TikTok and Facebook voted to unionize at a landmark meeting in Nairobi.
These AI workers are invisible, underpaid, and the backbone of the tech in all our pockets:

I've noticed that a lot of American academic CVs will list professional society memberships. I've never considered doing this unless I was a committee member or did something useful. What's the reason for listing them otherwise - what's the upside for someone evaluating the CV?
