Despicable move by @fordnation and @PaulCalandra
NEW: We have a copy of a letter sent to newly-elected trustees at school boards under Ford government supervision, laying out the sweeping restrictions they will face when they are sworn in later this month. This comes after the education minister accused some incoming trustees of trying to circumvent the rules. Paul Calandra is defending the restrictions, saying parliament is "the ultimate voice of the people."

As we continue to mark Treaties Recognition Week, here is a simple thing everyone can do to support the Indigenous Peoples. Today is the final day for the public to submit comments to deny approval of cut blocks in the Central Walbran, BC. This is a beloved, ecologically and culturally significant area of high productivity old-growth temperate rainforest running along Walbran Creek. Learn more about the importance of this area and submit your own comment here: docs.google.com/document/d/1…

Terrifying rumors are swirling about Israel pressuring Trump to launch a nuclear strike on Iran immediately after the midterms or some other major escalation. I wish I was sure that this was too unhinged to take seriously, but we do not live in sane times where these kinds of dismissals are possible. Instead, we live amidst the rise of end times fascism, where dangerous accelerationists hold enormous sway in both the Israeli and U.S. governments. The hardcore religious end timers have partnered with criminals like Trump, Netanyahu, and several tech oligarchs whose only path to avoiding legal accountability for their many crimes is dramatic (and distracting) escalation. I desperately hope the rumors are exaggerated, but we need to be ready in case they are not. That's why we are releasing this video today on the eve of the U.S. midterms. We can defeat these maniacs, but only if we know what we are up against. youtube.com/watch?v=obZN_n53…

UPDATE: Last Friday, October 30, ETT met with senior TDSB management at our Elementary Concerns Committee (ECC). We sent the Board our questions on Wednesday, giving them 48 hours to prepare. These weren't abstract questions. They came directly from teachers describing what's happening in their classrooms. Unfortunately, we left with far too many questions unanswered. ETT President Nigel Barriffe shares the details

📣 NEW from School Magazine: "School boards under supervision: Paul Calandra wants to swear in trustees but give them no power" "Since the Tories took office in 2018, the gap between inflation and what they spend on education resulted in a funding drop of $6.5 billion. In a recent article, @ccpa researcher, @ricardo_tranjan noted this means that more schools need major repairs, boards are on the hook to cover special education needs for which they are underfunded; class sizes have gone up and there are fewer staff in schools despite higher enrolments. Also, 41 of 72 boards projected budget deficits in 2025-26, compared with eight in 2018-19." READ MORE: educationactiontoronto.com/a…

Doug Ford pulled the rug out from under students and then blamed them for it. His government was warned about suspicious OSAP activity at private career colleges as far back as 2023, and it kept approving them for funding anyway. Now students are left with more debt, no OSAP grants and no idea how they’ll finish school. Today I’m forcing a vote to make Ford come up with a plan, within 14 days, for the students paying the price for his government’s failure.

I am banned from the West Bank for two months, while the shoeless terrorist Tomer Liani is still at large, enjoying life, participating in ethnic cleansing
We were nearly killed two days ago. Settler-terrorist Tomer Liani bashed my head against the ground repeatedly, then the IDF and police blocked the ambulances and prevented hospitalisation. All because we caught the settlers locking locking a gate to more than 20 Palestinian communities, trapping entire families. We exposed Tomer Liani, Shimon Atia and Nevo Nadalski directly committing crimes against humanity in Masafer Yatta, and we were punished by the Israeli police and court for this. Israeli state terrorism in the West Bank is at its peak, and the authorities are doing everything to keep Palestinian voices silent.

Another bombshell on the billion dollar OSAP scandal. Over 8,300 OSAP applications came from just THREE IP addresses. The Ford government was warned as early as 2023 and received over 220 tips, complaints and referrals since January 2024. They had the warnings. They refused to act until Oct 2026. Now students are paying the price. We need a full forensic audit. cp24.com/politics/queens-par… #onpoli

The day the police will no longer raise their batons against people standing for human rights and against war-mongering and genocide, will be a beautiful day. The day the police will walk WITH the anti-apartheid and anti-war movement, it will be the beginning of a new era.
Thousands have protested across Italy against rising living costs and increased military spending, demanding greater investment in healthcare and education. Demonstrations spread to 50 cities, with clashes reported between protesters and police.

🚨 “Why aren’t you arresting them? They’re right here!” Israeli settlers attacked Palestinian olive pickers and foreign solidarity activists in Kafr Malik, northeast of Ramallah in the occupied West Bank, on Friday, beating and injuring several people. Israeli soldiers arrested one of the activists while leaving the settler assailants untouched. In footage filmed by Drop Site contributor Mutasem Sqf Elhait, another activist confronts the soldiers while the settlers remain at the scene: “If you’re making arrests, then can you arrest the people who hit him and beat him up? There are videos of everything.” Jaafar Hamayel, Fatah secretary in Ramallah and al-Bireh, told Drop Site that settlers attacked the harvesters from multiple directions while soldiers protected them. “One Jewish solidarity activist stood in front of them to protect a woman who was picking olives. He was assaulted and injured in his face and mouth, and his teeth were damaged,” he said. “The army should be forcing the settlers to leave, not forcing us off our own land.” The Palestinian Colonization and Wall Resistance Commission has documented more than 500 settler attacks on the olive harvest across the occupied West Bank since the harvest season began in early October. 🎥 Mutasem Sqf ElHait

The same guy who was caught fixing the price of bread for years now claims that the big grocers have no control over prices. Give me a break. Canadians aren’t stupid. We see Galen getting richer and richer as grocery costs skyrocket. We know we’re being ripped off. It’s time to break up the Big Grocery Cartel and drive down costs with a national network of public grocery stores that Canadians can actually afford to shop at.
