Convinced that a group of witches was plotting to get him pregnant through a mystical ritual to conceive the Antichrist, the artist took extreme protective measures at his home, even hiring a white priestess named Wanda Beswick. To counteract the supposed evil influences and curses he feared would be cast upon him, Bowie performed exotic purification rituals in his apartment. These practices included exorcising his swimming pool, strategically placing mirrors, and storing his own urine in the refrigerator, all to prevent any practitioner of black magic from using his bodily fluids in spells against him. This dark and surreal phase reflected the lowest point in the British musician’s mental health, fueled by isolation and a loss of control. Fortunately, his subsequent move to Berlin allowed him to distance himself from that atmosphere of paranoia, regaining his personal stability and ushering in one of the most brilliant creative periods of his entire career.
