"When politicians & media narrowly cast this purely as a political attack and refuse to name the elephant in the room – male violence against women – They escape acknowledging and examining the social conditions that shape men’s attitudes towards women"
All of us are so very, very sad. My piece for @shot_au

Any women who has known or experienced male violence will recognise this for what it was. An attack on a woman by an angry man. We can look into the reasons why he was angry, but that does not address why than anger manifested itself by ramming into a woman repeatedly in his 4WD

Yesterday we saw two sides of masculinity. MP Helen Haines lost a leg after being rammed by an angry man. Ricky Jefferies then disarmed the knife-carrying driver. One man brought violence; the other courage. Forget the toxic manosphere. Real strength is about making people safer.

Gloria Steinem is the reason you can have your own credit card.
She’s the reason you can open a bank account.
She helped ensure we could be financially independent from men.
She fought tirelessly for abortion rights and higher education.
We owe her so much.

Rest in power, Gloria Steinem.
She understood that librarians do more than connect us with books. They democratize knowledge, protect our inner lives, and make freedom possible.
Access to information is power. Reading the books others want banned is an act of resistance.
Honor Gloria’s legacy. Read her work. Support libraries and independent bookstores. Keep fighting for equal rights and the freedom to know.

The writer and activist Gloria Steinem died Wednesday, at 92. With her writing, her community organizing, and her partnerships, Steinem remained at the forefront of the feminist movement for more than 60 years. In 2015, Jane Kramer profiled Steinem for The New Yorker. “I’m an entrepreneur of social change,” Steinem told Kramer. “I raise money. I talk. I write. I tell stories. I want to do justice to the women I meet.” Revisit the story: newyorkermag.visitlink.me/mp…

A trailblazer who opened the door for so many of us, Gloria Steinem. Of course she was a life-long cat lover. 💔💔💔💔💔💔

She changed the world by teaching women they had the power to change it. Rest in power, Gloria Steinem.

Good to hear South Coast Labour Council’s @ArthurRorris push back against a measly $2m deal to supply AUKUS steel. Even on ‘return on investment’ it’s chicken feed. But more importantly, our industrial regions should be making things for peace not war.
