Just got word from our wardens at Kilcoole that we now have >204 active Little Tern nests, matching last year's peak (which wasn't hit until June 2023). It's been a very early start to nesting and it'll be a busy few months trying to keep them all safe! @NPWSIreland @BirdWatchIE – at Wicklow, Ireland

Lapwing can be seen in Ireland year-round but the greatest numbers occur between Sept. & April. Like many ground-nesting species, the Lapwing has undergone severe declines in breeding numbers. It now red-listed on the Birds of Conservation Concern in Ireland list. #wwd2024

Wonderful to see. Ponds on farmland. Creating habitats for a range of species. Well done all.
Here's a selection of some of the wonderful wildlife ponds that have been carefully dug on farms around the country this year. Great to see this on-the-ground farming for nature progress through our Hares Corner initiative! Well done to all the farmers who have taken part so far!

Today has been a tumultuous day in Dublin City, marked by violent protests after a tragic attack by an individual who happens to be from a non-white background. This incident has ignited anger among some Irish people, stemming from their frustration with the government's handling of critical issues such as the housing crisis, healthcare crisis, and migrant crisis. It is disheartening to witness this expression of anger being directed towards migrants, who have unfortunately become scapegoats in the eyes of some. Instead of holding the government accountable for their inadequate responses, these individuals are misguidedly channeling their frustrations towards migrants. If is important to remember that our strength as a nation lies in our diversity and inclusivity. Blaming migrants will not solve the urgent problems we face. It is essential that we engage in constructive dialogues and ensure our government is held responsible for implementing effective solutions to these pressing issues. Any individual engaging in violence during protests is merely a hooligan and a troublemaker. Those who participate in damaging property, pursuing individuals, and carrying out violent assaults must be held responsible. We cannot permit these individuals to alter the Dublin that we hold dear through their acts of violence. #Ireland #DublinCity
