💔 One of Patrick Stewart’s most beautiful memories was meeting Lionel Messi, not for himself, but for his wife. His emotional story hits differently following his passing. Rest in peace. 🕊️
The most beautiful part of this story isn’t simply that Patrick Stewart met Lionel Messi. It’s that he went through all of that just to give his wife a moment she would never forget. And the joy on his face as he remembered Messi’s smile makes the story even more touching. A beautiful memory, a beautiful love story, and a moment his wife will always have.
“This hand actually shook Lionel Messi’s hand on Monday evening. Not because I personally wanted to meet him, but because my wife did. Lionel Messi has made my wife fall in love with football. She had absolutely no interest in it until she watched this man play.
I knew he would be attending this event. I had accepted an invitation to present one of the awards, as I’m also chairman of an academy at an excellent English football club, a club I’ve supported since I was seven years old.
I knew there would be many famous people there, not just from British football, but internationally. I didn’t know Messi would be there, but I hoped he would.
I told my wife that if he was there, I would do everything I could to get us face-to-face with him.
She said: ‘What if Messi becomes the one person who refuses everything?’
I told her: ‘That’s okay. Absolutely okay.’
But it was extremely difficult. There were security arrangements unlike anything I’d ever seen before.
You might have thought the royal family was attending, because Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo were there, along with another Argentine legend, Maradona.
At one point, they brought a football onto the stage for a young England international.
It was impossible to get close to them. I was sitting in the front row, but at the far end of the auditorium, while all these stars were at the other end.
I decided that as soon as the ceremony ended, I would try to reach them quickly.
They started saying: ‘Thank you all, it’s been a wonderful evening. Thank you, see you next year.’
I turned to my wife and said: ‘Move away, and stay close to me.’
I rushed along the front of the auditorium, between the edge of the stage and the front row, saying: ‘Excuse me, excuse me, please let me through!’
I realized people must have been thinking: ‘Oh my God, there must be an emergency! Something must have happened!’
Eventually, I reached the security barrier.
I kept saying: ‘Excuse me, I’m Patrick. I’m sorry. I’m really embarrassing myself.’
I repeated: ‘I’m Patrick Stewart! I’m Patrick Stewart!’
I thought my name might help me get past security.
When I finally reached them, they were saying: ‘Oh, okay, okay!’
I saw Cristiano Ronaldo lift his head and look at me as if to say: ‘Who is this man?’ But I couldn’t see Leo. He wasn’t in his seat. He had turned around and was leaning over his chair, and because he’s relatively short, he was completely hidden behind the people standing there.
I stood behind Messi, and then he got up, turned around, and we were face-to-face.
Oh my God, there was his face! A huge smile lit up my face.
He smiled back at me with a radiant smile.
I said: ‘Mr. Messi, please, my wife.’
We shook hands.
Then I asked him: ‘May I take a picture of you two together, please?’
I didn’t take a selfie. I took a photograph of Lionel Messi and my wife standing side by side.
Then his wife (Antonela) said: ‘I want a picture with you too!’
All of this happened just four nights ago, and as you can see, I’m still deeply moved and incredibly excited about what happened.”

Ronaldo when he scores his 1,000th goal thinking he’s the all-time top scorer, only to realise he still needs 280 MORE to break the record.

🚨| Messi’s 2026 at the age of 39 has already surpassed Ronaldo’s 2008 where he won the Ballon d’Or and now was voted as the best year of all time. 😳🐐

Imagine dismissing the real Ballon d’Or as “fictional”... then celebrating a paid, small-sample fan poll win like this on Instagram 😂.
Ronaldo moves like his fanbase does 😭.

🚨 Jamie Carragher on Cristiano Ronaldo Winning the BOAT Vote:
🗣️ Honestly, I have to ask a simple question: why does this award even exist?
Cristiano Ronaldo has won it, his supporters are celebrating, and suddenly we're supposed to treat this as another victory over Lionel Messi. But what exactly has he won? This is a fan vote, not another official Ballon d'Or.
And when you look at the voting system, you have to question what the results actually tell us. People pay €1 per vote, and they can vote more than once. So are we measuring the greatest individual season in football history, or measuring how many paid votes a player's supporters are willing to submit?
Let's talk about Messi for a moment. Eight Ballon d'Ors. Ronaldo has five. Those are the actual awards they won through the established Ballon d'Or process. You can debate their performances, their careers and their greatest seasons, but you cannot simply use a paid online poll to rewrite football history.
Ronaldo's 2008 season was outstanding. Nobody needs to pretend otherwise. But why must every conversation about Messi and Ronaldo turn into another competition to prove that one is better than the other?
And what is the point of creating a new title if the result can be heavily influenced by repeat voting? If the organisers want to celebrate historic Ballon d'Or-winning seasons, fine. But don't confuse a fan poll with a definitive verdict on football greatness.
If this is supposed to determine the greatest Ballon d'Or-winning season of all time, then the voting system itself deserves scrutiny.
Personally, I'd rather see football judged by what players achieved on the pitch than by who can generate the biggest voting campaign online.
At some point, we have to ask ourselves: are we celebrating football history, or are we just giving Ronaldo and Messi's fanbases another reason to fight?”

“Oh my God, Messi. It’s not even close....”
“Ronaldo’s unbelievable. He’s an unbelievable goal scorer. Messi scores goals, he gets assists, he embarrasses people. You still haven’t seen them both playing now? It’s not great for your GOAT....”
BWP didn’t even hesitate when Ocho asked who’s the greatest of all time between Messi and Ronaldo. He said:
“Oh my God, Messi. It’s not even close.”When they pressed him on why, he broke it down simply:
“Forget stats. At football first touch, taking players on, creating for teammates, everything the game needs. Everything you do in the game that makes you great, Messi’s better than Ronaldo. If you bring both of these players to the park, you don’t know who they are, you ain’t got a clue. You just bring them both, give them a ball. I promise you, you walk away from the park saying the little guy there is way better than that tall guy there.”He kept going:
“Ronaldo’s unbelievable. He’s an unbelievable goal scorer. Messi scores goals, he gets assists, he embarrasses people. You still haven’t seen them both playing now? It’s not great for your GOAT.”When the conversation turned to why so many people still lean toward Ronaldo off the pitch the haircut, the ankle tape, the long-sleeve jersey, the whole look BWP explained it straight:
“You can see yourself working to be like Ronaldo. Messi is an alien. Forget trying to be like him. It’s not going to happen, just admire him. You can be Ronaldo. Messi is God-given talent. It’s like somebody touched him and you’re just special.”
Even with Ocho bringing up Mourinho preferring Ronaldo which I heavily disagree with, Mourinho is known to constantly glaze Messi all the time. He doesn't even talk about Ronaldo half as much as he talks about Messi and that's across mutiple interviews, across mutiple clubs. He still says it everytime that there's no one like Messi. BWP stayed firm. The difference, according to him, isn’t about who has more goals or who looks more marketable. It’s about who you can actually see playing football and immediately know is on another level. The little guy who makes everything look effortless, who creates, who scores, who makes people around him better and who still looks like the best version of the sport when you just put a ball at his feet.
