i know dad, theyโ€™re not toys to play with and i know i have to respect how dangerous they are. but itโ€™s still cool that i can learn on the farm with you and mom.
and you remember why we allow you? that guns are unfortunately a large part of this country, number one killer is people not know how to use them correctly. so you knowing how to check if itโ€™s loaded, how to hold it correctly and make it safe is important.

you and mom are both the best, none of my friends are allowed to shoot guns and they all think itโ€™s really cool that i can. donโ€™t worry, i tell them i have to be sensible.
a very big prize. but she did love me before that because your mom is just the best.

great! i love the fair! did you give mom a big prize when you started dating? is that why she fell in love with you?
when theyโ€™re in town over thanks giving weโ€™ll go, show off a bit. mom will love you winning her a prize. girls love a guy who can win them the biggest stuffed animal the stall has.

youโ€™ll take me right? so i can show off my skills and win all the prizes. do you think i could win something for mom?
be hard to find a kid twice your age that has a better aim than you. got a skill kiddo very few people have โ€” wait until the fairs in town youโ€™ll be winning every shooting game there.

do you really think so? mom always says iโ€™m really good.
shooting? sounds good. youโ€™ll soon be better than both of us the rate youโ€™re going.

hmm.. can we go shooting? i want to keep practicing so i can get as good as you and mom.
you pick. we can โ€” go fishing. ride the dirt bikes. go into town and hit up the arcade. go shooting. days wide open for fun.

a somewhat sceptical look crossed his features, but he wasnโ€™t about to question his dad on a day when he was still feeling fairly low on energy. it was nice to believe in something fantastical even if he wasnโ€™t entirely convinced. a quick nod, the same smile remaining as โ€”

a big spoonful of soup quickly swallowed, head bobbing in a nod and even managing a much brighter smile. โ€œme and mom napped for ages. my throat is still a little bit sore but itโ€™s feeling better. i had some more medicine too but this soup is the best.โ€ beaming in his momโ€™s โ€”

the mention of some of his favourite movies and the promise of ice pops caused a smile, even if it wasnโ€™t quite as wide as would be normal. another yawn, and despite the request to move downstairs, he found himself quickly drifting back off to sleep, tucked in the safety โ€”
