“If I really thought that the Church does not exist to bring people to Christ, then I would resign and get an honest job.”
Well, another Cardinal has come out with a, shall we say, puzzling take on evangelization. A few years ago, Cardinal Américo Aguiar, at the time auxiliary bishop of Lisbon, said that he and the other organizers of World Youth Day in his hometown had no interest in converting anyone to Christ. Now Cardinal Jean-Paul Vesco of Algeria has opined that “the Church is not there to convert” and “Christians should approach other religions through fraternity rather than seeking conversions.” Excuse me, but…what? Last time I checked, the Founder said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you.” Sure sounds like conversion to me. When St. Paul came to Corinth or Athens or Thessalonica, his purpose was not to listen or to form a discussion group but rather to declare an unnerving message: the euangelion (glad tidings) that Jesus Christ is risen from the dead. So impassioned is he for this work that he says, “I have become all things to all people, that I might by all means save some. I do it all for the sake of the gospel” (1 Cor. 9:22); and “If I proclaim the gospel, this gives me no ground for boasting, for an obligation is laid on me, and woe to me if I do not proclaim the gospel” (1 Cor. 9:16)! Moreover, the entire thrust of the Second Vatican Council was toward bringing the Light of Christ to the peoples of the world (Lumen Gentium). And this missionary élan has given rise in the last few decades to the idea of a “new evangelization,” which is to say, a fresh declaration of the Lordship of Christ. Quite obviously, no one thinks that this work of evangelization should be done in a brow-beating, overbearing, or disrespectful manner (proselytization), but for God’s sake, let’s not throw the baby out with the bathwater. If I really thought that the Church does not exist to bring people to Christ, then I would resign and get an honest job.

One neat thing about the US is that when political violence is brought up, both sides say, "Actually, the other side is doing political violence. I would never call for it." The vast majority don't want political violence. This bitch spends five years in my country, and tries to turn it into a shithole. She celebrates an assassination and relishes the fact that her political enemies can justifiably fear violence. At some point, the right will respond with, "Okay, let's fucking go," and the democratic experiment will be over. It's irresponsible to vividly paint the picture, but I assure you that no one wants it. I want this harpy and her family deported. Disgusting behavior, and an existential threat to civilization.
At @UTSA for Pick Up the Mic, a student read a poem celebrating the assassination of Charlie Kirk with such glee, then told me I was brave to be out here without my neck covered. I told her I’d pray for her. This is the climate. We pick up the mic anyway.

Get this creepy little ventriloquist dummy out of my country
You’re remarkably quick to invoke the First Amendment when someone is accused of directing xenophobic abuse at a man of Indian descent, yet conspicuously less vocal about the equal standing of the Americans subjected to that racism. You are simply more outraged by the prospect of someone being held accountable for racist conduct than by the racism itself.

Is east asian striver culture that unique? There seems to be a lot of parallels of it with renaissance nobles and 18th century Europe with their fascination of luxury goods and exterior status symbols

Amy Acton doesn’t get to hide behind being raped as a child to dodge answers about her plans for Ohio. I was molested as a child, that doesn’t excuse me from things that I do today. Give me a break. Who the fuck does she think she is? If that’s your closing campaign message, you have nothing else.

Why don't we build neighborhood restaurants anymore? I imagine property values would go up by at least $100k if a subdivision had one of these
