An amazing read for this Lunar New Year. Thinking of the relationships formed around those large tables in Chinese restaurants and of my own 'outsider' positionality when conducting this research- something I frequently reflect on.
"Yet there is a more selfish reason I go to Chinese restaurants. I go to take a breather from living in a white world." Today's newsletter by @aspiringboy is about the complex politics of belonging experienced at Chinese restaurants across the world vittles.substack.com/p/a-vit…

"the discomfort of the outsider is a feeling that should be leaned into and embraced; it’s a reminder that the city is never your playground to own, that ultimately, we are all guests." Cities do an amazing job at place making but with this comes a battle for home making too

I'm very glad to have done my research on Chinatown communities and feel I offered a strong presentation of various experiences but often reflect on to what extent did I interrupt the process of home-making and this article has extended this reflection, which I'm grateful for.

Really great article for GA members, happy to send it over for those who aren't. Important insight into the relationship between whiteness and geographical powerful knowledge, as well as practical steps.
