I am an appellate lawyer and persnickety dude. As a hobby, I correct typos in the Times, which no longer employs copy editors and consequently has tons of typos

I heard I was a clue on Celebrity Jeopardy last night. Unfortunately the prompt was not “They call this lawyer the living Christ of amateur copyediting”

Typos 11 and 12, by Tressie McMillan Cottom (@tressiemcphd): she called W.E.B. DuBois “DuBois’s,” making him a possessive for no reason. “The Cosby Show” universe is a bad grammatical error for the “Cosby Show” universe; you need a “the” outside the quotes to modify universe.
Typos 9 and 10 of the day: this question mark belongs outside the quotes because it isn’t part of the quote. Under your style guide you modify capitalization in quotes to follow your style, so you have to lowercase President. @RichardFausset @KannoYoungs @davidwchen

California Gov. Gavin Newsom is a bad style guide violation for Gov. Gavin Newsom of California, as well as a grammatical error, like if you were a local doctor and I called you local Doctor Schleifer. According to pitch is Lesser Times Desk Pidgin for according to a pitch.

Typo 35 of the day is a bad affect/effect error:
Bad affect/effect error (although contrary to subliterate belief, affect can be a noun, though not here, and effect can be a verb).

Hey @nytopinioncopy, I don’t think you saw this because I didn’t tag you in it (though in the next post I said to see above for more corrections of this column)

an $799-a-couple marriage retreat is a typo for a $799-a-couple marriage retreat, as $799 starts with a consonant, s.

About 80 times more means about 81 times as much (see your style guide), and New Mexico Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham is a bad style guide violation (and a grammatical error) for Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham of New Mexico. @bradplumer, cc @MikeMadden @doug_alteen_nyt

In your kicker you called undocumented immigrants undocumented immigrations, @amarimow. The Times will be kicking itself for not hiring James Romoser instead of you for a long time (or until it just hires him). cc @RozHelderman
