thx for the writeup crim!
happy to get you to use this hive dapp knowing how busy you are daily working on outside hive related things!
Looking forward to see this project grow and continue to be fun and entertaining!
a silly story about a blockchain project I'm really loving right now that brought me back around to attaching the music I love to my public identity to connect over it
while chatting with @oAcido one night in April he mentioned the word "scrobble," and it ended up with us laugh-crying about a terrible old FunHaus video from the elder internet. But it came from his idea that this is a perfect way to use an instant, feeless transaction to build cool services to bring people together.
For the next little while we chatted about it back and forth as he pondered bringing it to life; what it should be called, how to use it to bridge the gap between on the chain and off the chain (and how to make it feel smoother than web2, because why would we want to go backwards on our neenernet expectations?!) and my adhd brain ended up locked into intrusive yell thoughts of
𝙎𝘾𝙍𝙊𝘽𝘽𝙇𝙀𝙎! 𝙎𝘾𝙍𝙊𝘽𝘽𝙇𝙀𝙎 𝙄𝙎 𝙒𝙃𝘼𝙏 𝙏𝙃𝙀𝙔'𝙍𝙀 𝙂𝙊𝙄𝙉𝙂 𝙏𝙊 𝘽𝙀 𝘾𝘼𝙇𝙇𝙀𝘿!
for months
(complete with dissolutions into giggle fits.
𝙎 𝙏 𝙃 𝘾 𝙍 𝙊 𝘽 𝘽 𝙇 𝙀 𝙎)
My guy had an MVP in a week. In a month, there was Music with Memory, and a host of little mini games and quests and connections to offchain social platforms. The gap between thinking and enjoying and experimenting and deploying is so small now... we can just do things!
So here we are at the end of the year, and I'm scrobblin all the time now. It takes me back to one of my favourite parts of the internet before everything here became about optimizing yourself to someone else's algo in the hopes they'll drain you dry but throw you a few pennies. I love the cover mosaic as a shifting, rebuildable and verifiable representation of who I am right now through what pleases my ears and eyes; I love how elegant and easy the instant pulls from the chain that build my taste profiles and suggestions against others are made possible from this app, that could be used by many others. There's something nostalgic about it, and it also proves just how easily how this type of data can be fully voluntarily decentralized without choking up a blockchain (tbf you gotta have a good one, thanks @hiveblocks), costing your crypto, and with the goal of fun and creating a gathering place and marketplace of possibility in mind.
go forth and do the things, try out the things that others do
because they're cool and fun and serve you, versus because you're twisting yourself to serve someone or something else ok
anyways, it's something that I have up pretty much all of the time while I'm coding and working now and it allows me to be buttsniffy about all the weird and interesting metal I enjoy so here you go

crypto is where bleeding edge tech goes to run the murder gauntlet of true genius/midwit, intentionally engineered/vibecoded, economically sound/fiscally experimental knife fighting (usually) for good.
the wider world can learn a LOT here; some lessons are more expensive
Joël and I have a fun discussion about many topics, but boy oh boy next time I'm going to make sure my camera angle puts my gigantic head in a more relatable ratio to other speakers 😂
Crypto is the world’s crash-test lab.
AI, money, data, sovereignty, and communities all collide here first, so the hacks and exploits hit us instead of everyone else.
We’re taking the beating so the rest of the world gets the upgrades.

social media & centralized blockchains have secret clauses that let them change the rules as needed to stay in control
on Hive, the rules ARE the protocol
witnesses are elected in public
rule changes only happen when run by a supermajority and backed by voters
we're what it looks like when there's no CEO to wake up on a whim and rig the game

Reddit is ending RSS in November: stuff built on their API has until March to find somewhere else. They've cited scraping as the catalyst.
Public discussion satisfies the itch for learning, marketplaces, and community building. Our take?
Go ahead and scratch, fam. Scrape away.

I remember when people called this the @hiveblocks killer and how it was gonna give content creators there millions of usd
well, only one of those has actually done that and is still alive and well even though it's not reflected on price, it won't be shutting down the chain.

Algorithms and access shape things you see, who you talk to, what you can read, and where you can speak. The brains of the world are being rewritten in real time by social feedback loops and forced compliance.

This Wednesday we're back with another Zypto X Space and a topic that affects every creator, every builder and every user online 🎙️
⚡ Arbitrary Rule Changes: Why Do Platforms Keep Changing the Rules?
You build your audience, learn the system, play by the rules. Then overnight everything changes. Monetization thresholds shift, algorithms flip, content gets buried. Centralized platforms hold all the power and you hold none. This Wednesday we talk about why this keeps happening and what the real alternative looks like.

Back to the tl because people irl frequently ask why I take such "huge risks" on crypto since I'm so clearly not a tech bro, because they see I love people, music, art, beauty and life.
It's actually really not hard to explain- despite the culture wars training us into two camps who each sneer at the over or underuse of tech by the other-
I want humans to thrive.
I want communities to be empowered with the tools to support each other and create network effects. I want everyone to be able to make a living, create savings and a legacy, afford to eat, and to feel comfortable enough to explore, create and take advantage of opportunities that will allow them to continue to make the world better for even more humans.
Money is broken. Banks are broken.
If you were to spend too much time looking at the doomscroll, humans seem broken.
YOU are not broken.
It's not a mistake that I ended up in trustless, permissionless, voluntary FOSS tech circles, or that I gave up secure and cushy corporate salaries for the sometimes terrifying uncertainty of DAOs and non-stable alternative currencies.
It's also not because I hate anything; it's the way that I want to love and value my own life and express that love to others. We can build something different, and better, for the people and the music and the art and beauty and life. It's going to have a lot of pitfalls, and an exceptionally high period of suck and discomfort. (It already does, especially when people make snap decisions hearing that I left the "real" world and now work solely for crypto and advocate for equitable, verifiable, open-sourced disruptive freedom tech. The reactions are often akin to telling someone I have leprosy.)
I don't want you to immediately light every centralized institution in your life on fire RIGHT NOW. I don't want you to live in fear or feel like you're being torn between two "I'm fucked forever" paths that both feel wrong to you. But I want to you to slowly and surely remind yourself that human history is full of evolution, and that upheaval in the way things feel like they have to be is the key component of getting to the next plateau on the way to where they should be.
Take heart. Learn more. Hold to your values alongside protecting your value.
green days ahead 🖤
We talk a lot about value: Hive exists to help you create, share, earn, and own it. Value encompasses more than just money, but honestly
money matters
Banks hold your balance while "reviewing" you.
$HIVE moves only when YOU sign; $HBD is the convertible on chain dollar-unit balance.
Both are owned and controlled by keys you hold, never by having to beg at a permissioned teller window.

your posts, followers, keys, funds, assets and data.
Everywhere reading the same graph so you can move seamlessly between apps without ever asking permission.
