TODAY IN HISTORY: NOVEMBER 3
The Disappearance of Five NELAN Engineers During Dave Umahi's Administration
On November 3, 2021, five engineers working with NELAN Consultants left Enugu for Ebonyi State on an official assignment connected to the Abakaliki Ring Road Phase II project. They travelled in an official Toyota Hilux with registration number ERR 001 EB. They never returned.
The five engineers were Engr. Nelson Onyemeh, Lead Consultant and Chief Executive Officer of NELAN Consultants, from Ihiala, Anambra State; Engr. Ernest Edeani, from Nkanu, Enugu State; Engr. Ikechukwu Ejiofor, from Umunya, Anambra State; Engr. Samuel Aneke, from Nkanu, Enugu State; and Engr. Stanley Nwazulum, from Amawbia, Anambra State.
Before their disappearance, serious disagreements had reportedly developed between NELAN Consultants and the administration of then-Governor Dave Umahi over the management, supervision and financial control of the AfDB-funded road project.
According to allegations made by the families of the missing engineers, the Umahi administration wanted NELAN to take a back seat and allow the state government greater control over the project, including issuing payment certificates and giving instructions to contractors.
The families further alleged that the government wanted NELAN to approve certificates of satisfactory completion for work supervised or executed by other engineers and contractors. NELAN reportedly resisted, arguing that such actions would violate the terms of its consultancy contract with the African Development Bank (AfDB), compromise its professional responsibilities and potentially expose the firm to sanctions.
On the day they disappeared, the five engineers reportedly travelled to Effium, in Ohaukwu Local Government Area of Ebonyi State, to carry out supervisory work on the road project. They were said to have arrived in the area at about 2 p.m. and were expected to meet a man identified as Ken Okeh around 3 p.m. to discuss accommodation arrangements.
That was the last known sighting of the five engineers.
Their disappearance prompted NELAN Consultants to petition the Inspector-General of Police, while the case attracted national attention and calls for a thorough investigation.
Five years after they left Enugu for what should have been a routine professional assignment, the whereabouts of Nelson Onyemeh, Ernest Edeani, Ikechukwu Ejiofor, Samuel Aneke and Stanley Nwazulum remain unknown. Neither the engineers nor their remains have been recovered.
What happened to the five NELAN engineers?

Biafrans, isn't it funny that the same Peter Obi that Mazi Nnamdi Kanu insulted — calling him homosexual and alleging he stole Anambra State money to build his mall when he was governor —
Has been checked, searched, and investigated from every angle by the Nigerian government looking for just one reason to detain him and stop him from contesting election, yet they could NOT find a single dent, a single kobo missing to hold against him.
EFCC checked. ICPC checked. They found nothing. That's why they have nothing to detain him with.
Now that makes me wonder: why did MNK go to such length to abuse and lie against Peter Obi? If not that he didn't get what he was looking for from Peter Obi?
Because if government with all its power could not find Peter Obi guilty of stealing, where did Mazi get his own proof from? It was not about truth. It was hatred and personal disappointment.
And still, that same Peter Obi is the one saying, "Free Nnamdi Kanu, you can't jail a man for insults on radio."
Character is not by shouting on radio. Character is by how you treat those who wronged you.
And how you show remorse before those you wronged.

Nothing can make Nigeria better. If Northern Nigeria that have ruled nigeria for 46 years of 66 years are still suffering, what do other regions expect to get when north never survived?

Southern Kaduna Worshippers: 212 Days in Captivity
Amnesty International is deeply concerned that the 37 people abducted in raids on churches during Easter Sunday worship on 5 April 2026 are still in captivity. The incident which happened in Ariko community of Kachia LGA southern Kaduna state is just one of many instances demonstrating the utter failure of Nigerian authorities to protect the people.
More of the 11 people abducted from Awon community have died in captivity this week. A woman Joy Samuel died on 28 August, after giving birth in a deplorable condition. The baby she delivered also died. Mr. Yusuf Bawa 34, and his 5-year-old son have also died as a result of severe illness and hunger. Deaths and severe illness these people are facing in captivity show the atrocities they are being subjected to.
While in captivity, the abducted persons are always repeatedly threatened to be killed, starved, women and girls raped, beaten and dehumanized in so many ways.
Recurring attacks, abductions for ransom, and killings are continuing to make life a hell in many parts of southern Kaduna. A climate of fear is affecting agricultural activities, education and other aspects of social lives of the people.
The Nigerian government must deliver on its national and international human rights obligations by immediately redoubling efforts to ensure the safe release and return of not only the 37 worshippers abducted in Kachia LGA, but also all people held captive by gunmen across Nigeria.

“We Do Not Want You to Know Him”: DOS Pushes Institution Over Chika Edoziem
Some of you are still judging IPOB, led by the Directorate of State (DOS) under Chika Edoziem, through the lens of a personality cult. Understand this and know peace. We are not building Chika Edoziem; rather, we are building institutional authority. We projected Nnamdi Kanu for over 10 years. That was a terrible mistake, and we are working to amend it. Today, the same person we projected says that Ndi Igbo joined IPOB because of him and not because of Biafra. He now sees us as hired people that he can sack at any time. We have accepted our earlier projection as a horrible blunder, and we are now working to promote the institution, not the personality.
We are not presenting Chika Edoziem to the world. No!, We are presenting the DOS as an institution to the global community. Do not expect to see Chika Edoziem the way you see Nnamdi Kanu. Remove the mentality that nobody knows him. We do not want you to know him; we want you to acknowledge an institution-based IPOB.
We have learned a terrible lesson from the individual we projected. When he attained relevance, he subjected our cause to the dustbin and presented himself as the ultimate authority. When someone sees himself as the one who decides who lives and who dies, we should be very worried.
The DOS under Chika Edoziem seeks to move the Biafra project from personality centred mobilisation toward an institution based framework.
