He understood the politics of discontent. Leveraging the grievances and ambitions of other political leaders, he assembled a formidable alliance, drawing them away from their respective parties.
Yet, while consolidating the alliance which would defeat a sitting but an extremely weak president and installing he’s candidate, he cultivated influence within the very parties they had abandoned, potentially closing their routes of political retreat.
Should the alliance collapse or its members seek to return, they might discover that the political structures they once controlled had moved beyond their reach.
Even the candidate who had inspired a formidable youth-driven political movement would find himself in an alliance with a political figure he had once associated with the very ‘structure of criminality’ he publicly opposed. Such was the complexity of the political realignment that yesterday’s ideological differences appeared increasingly negotiable in the pursuit of political power.
To students of political history, the question would be whether these developments were merely the product of political expediency, the independent choices of ambitious politicians, or the consequence of a carefully calculated strategy by a politician whose influence extended deep into the opposition.
For his critics, this was political checkmate: not merely defeating opponents at the ballot box, but potentially controlling the political structures they depended upon, limiting their alternatives and threatening their political survival.
He was not merely President and leader of the ruling party ahead of his 2027 re-election bid. His political influence extended deep into the major opposition parties, even shaping who emerged to challenge him at the polls.
Such was the extent of his political manoeuvring across party lines.
Not sure we will ever find a dogged politician like him in our lifetime…

My boss, it’s important for me to do it o. There are a lot of false narratives about it lately. Recently, someone asked me to link him up with the city boy movement, the other day, the guy said I should show him way to become a councillor under APC and I was like, “Councillor or City wetin?” 😭 Another dm again last night. That’s when I knew I had to do this. Now people think I dey chop politics money 😂 Abeg, I’m focused on my career, I never ready for politics o 😅
