Pontypool (2008) dir. Bruce McDonald 3/5 October Spookfest 27 of 31 Like many on this spookfest list I've seen this before. It's a cracker of a low budget horror comedy. All filmed in one location, mostly a single room of a radio studio, small cast, and a very clever idea.

I think the Labour Party has entered its slightly senile Nan stage. It's like a parody of Blair era messaging.
Breathing space for today, fresh hope for the future.

I'm sure Lewis means well, but the entire schtick of the moneysaving site is that some pure schmuck on average wage can use arbitrage on a percentage point here and a percentage point there to be better off like they're skimming the difference on billion dollar deals rather than their £2k credit card debt. And absolutely, the banks, insurance, telecoms and energy companies play along with the silly game, but the house always wins.

Forget marginal interest rates and moving pots of money around, the message this week is clearly don't save, buy loo roll and baked beans instead.
NEW. Additional tax on savings interest (outside of your personal savings allowance and cash ISAs) from April 2027 Basic rate taxpayer: 24% on savings interest and property income Higher rate taxpayer: 44% Top rate taxpayer: 49% So the fact the cash ISA is staying at £20,000 per year is even more important. #Budget2026

I wonder how many million pound homes are somehow in Band B or even A for council tax?
18
I was taking home more money when I was in a Band A property than I am in my Band F. The bands are a joke, 35 years out of date, and while this will obviously help a lot of people who need it, it will go to millions who don't.
NEWS ENERGY PAYMENT: £100 payment to all households in Council Tax bands A to D for England (and funding for same in other nations). That's 20m homes. Translation: This is the support for the huge rise due in January price cap. Its expected to be 27% up. Which equates to roughly £100 from Jan to March alone.

So the Mayor of Britain is giving more money to the Mayors? Meanwhile, councils are going bust across the country. Unbelievable.

Because the entire tax system is being rigged to bring the median closer and closer to the minimum. Minimum wage goes up, tax rates on higher incomes going up, the thresholds not changing. Everybody ends up being paid almost the same regardless of the job. It's communism.
Why have British people been programmed to assume an increase to the minimum wage is a bad thing? All I’m seeing is complaints. Should the anger not be aimed at salaries in general not being high enough and not at the minimum wage earners?

What kind of self employed person (even one riding a bike delivering food) will be remotely enthused by 15 hours minimum wage payment for two weeks?
Burnham announces statutory paternity pay for self employed dads. That’s £194 a week, for two weeks. At a really tough moment for families. This is obviously a good thing, besides being politically smart. It’s okay to say that, and enjoy the occasional positive news.

Ahahahahaha Your former leader just wasted two years then? All so that you could try to get 'breathing space' to catch on? Fetch isn't going to happen.
In his first 100 days as Prime Minister, Andy Burnham has been tackling the long term problems that have been ignored for far too long and giving people vital breathing space on the cost of living.

The focus group....
Re-upping this Makerfield focus group from last week in light of headlines around PM re-opening convo on EU. I thought he’d get a Brexit backlash. But my big surprise in group was that nearly all these leave voters had regret & open to PM’s look again m.youtube.com/watch?v=7JdmZQ…

Thirst (2009) dir. Park Chan-Wook 3/5 October Spookfest 26 of 31 It's an interesting and unusual take on an old idea. Effects are well done, the horror blends with occasional humour as it tackles morality, religion, addiction. The pacing was a little on the slow side.

Hey @JohnHealey_MP if you want a really easy fix in your budget, do this: Pension = tax allowance = 1000 hours minimum wage. Currently they're not far off this. £12,547.60: £12,570: £12,710 Equalise them. Fix them all to some measure to rise each year. It will be popular.

I only did a MSc in Management, thought the equivalent MBA was a bit ego driven rather than organisational, so maybe I missed the part where management schools explain most problems in management are due to the surprising amount of sociopaths you have to deal with.

Yes, I am never not slightly shocked at how little so many people actually care about others despite committing to many nice sounding policies and statements. Also, the people who demand things quicker or better without committing any resources.
